The role

We are looking for an exceptional senior or staff-level backend engineer to help build the financial core of Ihsan Pay.

You will take ownership of the backend systems that ensure every balance, transfer, deposit, withdrawal and card transaction is recorded and processed correctly.

When a user deposits $1,000, sends $100 or receives a card refund, Ihsan Pay must always know exactly what happened and what the user’s correct balance should be—even when providers send duplicate events, systems temporarily fail or transactions arrive in an unexpected order.

Your responsibility will be to make that financial infrastructure reliable, secure and auditable.

This is a hands-on engineering position. You will design the architecture and write production code—not only manage other engineers.

What you will build

  • Ihsan Pay’s core payments backend
  • The financial ledger that records every movement of customer funds
  • Real-time balances for USDC, EURC and PAXG
  • Internal transfers between Ihsan Pay users
  • Username- and QR-based payment processing
  • Deposit and withdrawal workflows through approved fiat partners
  • Card authorization, settlement, reversal and refund processing
  • Merchant-payment and settlement infrastructure
  • Payment state machines and transaction lifecycles
  • Idempotent APIs that prevent duplicate payments
  • Reliable processing of provider webhooks and asynchronous events
  • Reconciliation between Ihsan’s records, custody accounts and external providers
  • Systems for identifying missing, duplicated or inconsistent transactions
  • Administrative tools for investigating and correcting payment problems
  • Permanent financial audit trails
  • Monitoring and alerts for failed or delayed payments
  • Secure access controls for sensitive financial operations
  • Scalable infrastructure that can support international growth
Examples of problems you will solve

  • A payment provider sends the same deposit notification three times
  • A card payment is approved but settled several days later for a different amount
  • A customer receives a refund after the original transaction was already reversed
  • A bank transfer succeeds, but the provider webhook is delayed
  • Two payment requests attempt to spend the same balance simultaneously
  • An internal transfer fails halfway through processing
  • Ihsan’s records do not match a custody or payment partner’s records
  • A provider becomes temporarily unavailable while transactions are still in progress
The system must handle these situations without losing money, creating money, duplicating transactions or showing customers an incorrect balance.

Required experience

You should have:

  • Senior or staff-level backend engineering experience
  • Experience building a live financial product handling real customer funds
  • Direct experience with payment ledgers, balances or transaction systems
  • Strong understanding of payment lifecycles and financial state changes
  • Experience with bank transfers, payment cards, wallets or stablecoin payments
  • Experience processing webhooks and asynchronous payment events
  • Experience designing idempotent and fault-tolerant systems
  • Experience with reconciliation and settlement
  • Strong PostgreSQL and data-modelling skills
  • Experience investigating difficult production payment incidents
  • Strong security awareness and attention to financial correctness
  • The ability to design architecture and write production code
  • Clear written and spoken English
  • High ownership and comfort working in a founding-stage team
Technical experience

Strong experience with several of the following is expected:

  • Go, TypeScript, Java, Kotlin or another suitable backend language
  • PostgreSQL and transactional database design
  • Double-entry financial ledgers
  • Event-driven systems and message queues
  • Payment state machines
  • Idempotency, concurrency control and distributed-system reliability
  • Webhooks, retries and dead-letter handling
  • Reconciliation and settlement systems
  • Card authorization, clearing, reversals and refunds
  • Bank-transfer and fiat-payment integrations
  • Stablecoin payment infrastructure
  • Solana, USDC, EURC or tokenized assets
  • Observability, audit logging and incident response
You do not need to know our exact technology stack already. Direct experience building reliable payment infrastructure is more important than experience with one particular programming language.
