Job Title: Government Relations and Policy Associate (Econ Incentives and Community Relations)

Reports To: VP of Public Policy

SUMMARY

The Government Relations and Policy Associate role will be responsible for supporting a cross-functional team with the ultimate goal of enhancing the feasibility and successful development of future mining facilities. Tasks include research and analysis, relationship-building, general data collection, and administrative support, as necessary. This role will contribute to the overall promotion of Marathon’s innovative growth, brand development, and financial and policy goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Source and evaluate funding opportunities at the state, local, federal, and occasionally international level such as grants, tax incentives, and loans.
2. Write engaging grant proposals and letters of inquiry while developing relationships with economic development agencies leading to successful reward of funding.
3. Analyze current project proposals and assist in development of new project proposals with respect to the location’s political economic situation including factors such as demographic changes, openness to industry and innovation, and more.
4. Analyze current project proposals and assist in development of new project proposals with respect to the potential compatibility of Bitcoin mining with other industries including agriculture, alternative energy, waste and byproduct utilization, and other applicable on-grid and off-grid energy sources.
5. Propose sustainable and renewable energy partnerships based on research and analysis and assist in cultivating successful partnerships.
6. Utilize critical thinking and creative ideation to develop or enhance project proposals.
7. Successfully communicate the positive externalities of Marathon’s business activities at the local level and proactively develop community engagement strategies.
8. Collect and track data to continuously monitor project feasibility.
9. Provide general support to the Vice President of Policy and other team members.

Other Responsibilities may include:

Produce and contribute to narrative reports as necessary conveying Marathon’s success with partnerships, funding receipts, and community enhancement.

• Synthesizing complex information about Bitcoin mining and renewable and sustainable energy practices into educational material for new audiences.
• Creating charts, one-pagers, and other informative material demonstrating the economic impact of Marathon’s community investments such as job creation, tax revenue, and collaboration with community partners.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state, local, federal, and international trends in renewable, alternative, and sustainable energy as well as the Bitcoin mining sector specifically related to cost-reduction and innovative strategies.

• A minimum of 3-5 years of associate experience
• Undergraduate or Master’s degree preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business publications.
