Company Description
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldnât work together.
To solve this problem, we expanded into software and built integrated solutions to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, weâve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes â large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. Weâre building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
Job Description
The IFM Merchandising team lives at the intersection of Platform and Product. Our team is responsible for a key primitive in the Square ecosystem: items. In practice, this means our team also owns seller-facing interfaces that enable millions of sellers to efficiently manage their item catalogs, the public items API and platform that backs those features.
In todayâs world, sellers expect to be able to sell their products wherever their buyers are looking. In some cases, this just means selling both in-person and online. But increasingly, there are further opportunities that come from integrating with channels like Google, Tiktok, Instagram, etc. To help sellers do this effectively, Square has a role to play in creating a seamless source of truth that can be easily exposed to all of these sales channels.
We are seeking a talented Android Engineer to join the IFM Merchandising mobile team, which includes both iOS and Android engineers.
You Will
- Plan and execute cross-functional projects to deliver remarkable solutions that improve seller experience
- Extend and maintain core item related user experiences on our Point Of Sale applications
- Collaborate with multiple stakeholders across the company, including product, design, and other engineering teams
- Mentor other engineers through design reviews and pair programming
- Kotlin (and Java) for development, leveraging Squareâs modern open source library, Workflow
- Compose, LeakCanary, RXJava, Dagger, Mortar, OkHTTP and more
Qualifications
- 5+ years of Android development experience and an excellent command of engineering fundamentals
- Proficiency in Kotlin or Java for development
- Ability to breakdown complex projects into components or milestones that other engineers can easily pick up
- Demonstrated collaboration with co-workers on cross-functional teams and in other locations
- A commitment to continuous improvement (yourself, your teammates, your software)
