About us

Flashbots started in 2020 as a research and development organization formed to mitigate the negative externalities and existential risks posed by Maximal Extractable Value (MEV). Since then, we have had an immense impact on the world of crypto through mev-geth, Flashbots Protect, MEV-Boost, MEV-Share, our open research and soon-to-be SUAVE.

Our mission is clear: illuminate, democratize and distribute.

We seek to ensure that the value created on decentralized, public blockchains is transparent and distributed. We do this by conducting cutting-edge research, building mission-critical products, and coordinating a diverse community with competing interests.

Our vibe is irreverent, anarchic, excellent, autonomous. We’re explorers, hackers, builders, thinkers. We are relaxed, composed, and at ease in the world, but beneath our suave exterior, we do not have the time or inclination to be anything but the best.

About the role:

Flashbots is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to augment our data minded organization.

As a Senior Data Engineer you will collaborate closely with our teams of scientists and engineers to support critical products like Pareto Builder, Protect RPC, and SUAVE.

Due to working with confidential data, you may be subject to trading restriction policies.

What You’ll Do:

  • Partner with stakeholders to understand and address their data needs, including Data Scientists, Product Owners, and Strategic Leadership.

  • Create, maintain, and optimize data systems and pipelines that facilitate the easy consumption of data sets. This includes designing and implementing scalable data storage and processing solutions, setting up monitoring and alerting systems to detect issues early, and ensuring data quality and integrity.

  • Ensure that the company's data handling processes are secure and compliant with our policies. This includes implementing appropriate access controls, encryption, and other security measures to protect sensitive data.

  • This role is crucial in helping deliver on Flashbots’ core values, illuminating the dark forest, by contributing to and advocating for open sourced datasets and tools.

Who You Are:

  • Familiar with blockchain infrastructure and the MEV problem space.

  • Proficient knowledge of relational databases, OLAP systems, and orchestration tooling

  • Senior level skills with Python or other programming languages.

  • Production experience with monitoring, alerting, and incident response.

  • Deep understanding of data engineering principles and best practices.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, async, and remote environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Disposed to action, finding out, and showing; curiosity to get to the root of the problems.

  • Kind, independently motivated, accountable, and reliable.

  • By default leave things better than you found them.

Nice-to-haves

  • Contributor to open source projects.

  • Experience with:

    • Golang and Rust

    • Clickhouse

    • Postgres

    • Airflow

    • Public clouds like AWS

    • Visualization tools

Details that matter

  • Significantly above market rate equity compensation package

  • Unlimited PTO with a high level of freedom and autonomy for your work

  • Attractive health coverage package for US employees

  • $3000 Yearly budget for your individual learning and development goals

  • Work alongside the brightest minds in the crypto space

  • Help save the world by ensuring crypto remains decentralized, permissionless and censorship-resistant

  • Remote working - work from anywhere in the world

  • Paid travel - 2 x team on-site in different parts of the world per year plus periodic travel to events

At Flashbots, we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, age, or disability status.
