The Company

Swan is the leading education focused Bitcoin-only onramp for retail customers, high net worth individuals and corporations looking to save in Bitcoin for the long term. We hire passionate Bitcoiners who want to work with a self-motivated and fully distributed startup team.

The Role

Swan is looking for an engineering leader with significant experience with payments fraud and risk systems at scale at Bitcoin, crypto exchanges, or fintech companies to improve and scale up an already sophisticated suite of tools, automations, and agent workflows. As Engineering Manager, you will report to the Sr. Director of Engineering and work closely with our teams managing ACH fraud and account takeovers to ensure the best experience for our clients, and the worst experience for fraudsters that would dare attack us.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of fraud detection systems and processes.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, and operations, to ensure fraud prevention measures are integrated effectively.

  • Deepen integrations with existing fraud and risk vendors to get the best data to the right places at the right time.

  • Develop and improve dashboards and monitors for detecting anomalies and creating alerts related to fraud and payments risk in partnership with the risk and data teams.

  • Work closely with our payments risk team and data analysts to implement workflow improvements.

  • Ride along with risk agents to Identify new patterns and build systems and processes to reduce risky behavior while focusing on positive experiences for user onboarding.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest fraud trends, techniques, and technologies in the industry. Conduct in-depth analysis of fraud patterns and identify potential vulnerabilities to proactively mitigate risks.

  • Work on systems to improve user experience for good actors through lowered lock times and higher purchasing limits.

  • Evaluate new system vendors, stay up-to-date with existing vendor offerings, and make recommendations to improve our tooling to senior management.

  • Mentor, evaluate, set goals for your engineering team, and contribute to the professional growth of the team.

Skills and experience that will help you succeed

  • Proven experience (3+ years) in fraud prevention and risk management, preferably at a major Bitcoin, Crypto, or Fintech company dealing with fraud at scale.
  • 3+ years proven track record of managing high performance engineering teams, specializing in fraud prevention and risk management.
  • 5+ years of Software Development experience, with a focus on consumer-facing applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, desire to own and lead a product from concept to execution.
  • Desire to work in a fast paced start-up environment where you’ll have a lot of say in the product, but also lots of responsibility.
  • A true passion for Bitcoin as a world-changing monetary innovation. We’re not a crypto or blockchain company. We don’t care if you’ve done any of those things in the past, but here we’re all about onboarding people into Bitcoin!
  • Familiarity with our stack (Node/React/Postgres) is a plus but not required.
  • Data science background a plus.
  • Must have US work authorization.

Here's a bit about our culture

  • We’re a growing team: Fully distributed across the world, Slack and Huddles are huge here.
  • We’re very flat: Leadership is desired and encouraged; we hire people who care about and use the product they are working on.
  • We’re Bitcoiners: We find solutions that encourage Bitcoin principles. We are often involved in the Bitcoin community through writing, podcasts, conferences, open source projects, and time spent on Twitter to help educate the masses. We love Bitcoin, and it comes through in our daily chats, meetings, and actions.

What does a React developer in web3 do?

A React developer in the context of web3 is a developer who is using the React JavaScript library to build user interfaces for decentralized applications (dApps) that run on the Ethereum blockchain

These dApps often use smart contracts to facilitate transactions and other interactions on the Ethereum network

Overall, the role of a React developer in web3 involves using your skills in React development to help build cutting-edge decentralized applications that leverage the power of the Ethereum blockchain

As a React developer in web3, some of your responsibilities might include:

  • Integrating the dApp with the Ethereum blockchain. This might involve using tools like web3.js and Ethers.js to connect to the Ethereum network and interact with smart contracts.
  • Building the user interface for a dApp using React. This could involve creating components for the various elements of the dApp, such as buttons, forms, and other input elements.
  • Implementing features that are specific to decentralized applications, such as handling cryptocurrency transactions and displaying data from the blockchain in a user-friendly way.
  • Collaborating with other members of the development team, such as blockchain engineers and designers, to ensure that the dApp functions properly and meets the needs of the end users.
