Who are we?

We believe Ethereum has the potential to solve some of humanity’s most crucial coordination issues. Since our initial inception as a research group, we have sought to scale both its technology and values.

At present, the most pressing bottleneck to the growth of Ethereum is its performance and scalability. We are building the most elegant solution to this problem. We do this in the open (under an MIT open source license) because we believe in open source innovation and its ability to accelerate growth.

OP Labs contributes to the Optimism protocol, an extension to Ethereum that scales both its technology and values. Optimism enables orders of magnitude of improved performance and scalability to Ethereum while doubling down on its commitment to public goods.

The Optimism Collective leads the blockchain protocol landscape, dedicated to fostering a scalable and sustainable ecosystem. Optimism’s ethos, in sync with Ethereum's vision, tackles pivotal coordination challenges of the digital age. Optimism’s goal is to harmonize private incentives with public good, shaping a resilient future for the Internet. Optimism’s scope spans diverse areas like Gaming, DeFi, NFTs, and Enterprise.

Overview:

We’re looking for an experienced product manager with a strong technical background to join the Protocol team. This role will own the strategy, roadmap and execution of critical parts of the core rollup protocol. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teammates at OP Labs and the Optimism Collective to deliver fast, cheap, secure and censorship-resistant blockspace to the Superchain, enabling decentralized applications at scale.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead core protocol initiatives: You’ll own the roadmap for critical components of the OP stack, and be responsible for delivering short-term value that is aligned with long-term strategic goals. Key areas of the protocol include: Superchain interoperability, scaling L2 throughput (incl. influencing L1 roadmap) while decreasing latency, permissionless fault proofs and bridges, and sequencer decentralization.

  • Champion the customer: You’ll be responsible for deeply understanding customer segments – ranging from chains leveraging the OP Stack, to infrastructure providers running OP Stack chains, to application developers and consumer users – their problems and needs, and representing their perspectives when designing solutions.

  • Collaborate with ecosystem builders: We work with a wide range of external contributors, researchers and companies to collaboratively deliver value to the Superchain. You’ll be responsible for understanding, prioritizing and shepherding new technical advances into the core of the protocol.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 5+ years of product and engineering experience: You have at least 5 years of technical product management experience (e.g. onchain protocols, infrastructure, shared services, developer tools, etc.) or at least 2 years of product management experience and 3 years of engineering experience.

  • Deep technical expertise: You have the ability to dive deep into the protocol’s technical design, evaluate trade-offs, and align engineering on solutions that address complex problems. Experience as a software engineer is strongly preferred, but a demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical teams and understand complex systems is essential.

  • Proficiency with crypto: You have a strong understanding of how blockchains work and broader ecosystems function, enabling you to identify impactful opportunities and solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills: You can clearly communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences, conveying critical points and takeaways succinctly.

  • Ownership mentality: You’re focused on driving initiatives to completion and owning the outcomes. You’re solution-oriented, see challenges as opportunities and learn from your mistakes.

What will you like about us?

  • We take care of our employees. Competitive compensation, fully paid medical, dental, and vision, and a 4% 401K match—learn more about our benefits, culture, and all recruiting FAQ here.

  • We take pride in the accomplishments of our teammates and support each other in doing the best work of our careers.

  • Our team is a diverse group of people from varied backgrounds. We cherish our eclecticism and consider it a great strength.

  • We’re fully remote, deeply engaged, highly skilled, and like to have fun.

  • We think long-term. Our founders have been scaling Ethereum since 2015.
