Orcaâs mission is to become the leading provider of financial primitives on Solana. Orca sees a future where a meaningful percentage of the worldâs financial transactions is powered by CLAMMs and other Decentralized Finance (DeFi) products. Orcaâs looking to add another senior software engineer to accelerate our progress towards that vision.
As a team of senior engineers, Orcaâs contributors are comfortable working around the stack but tend to be experts in a particular area. Orca is looking for a like-minded generalist who can specialize in building out its backend services and infrastructure.
What youâll do
- Work with designers to build delightful user-facing products.
- Improve site speed, performance, and reliability.
- Design and build performant APIs that power Orcaâs applications, on-chain analytics, and other projects within the Solana ecosystem.
- Maintain tooling and best practices for testing, package management, and CI/CD.
What youâll bring
- Proven track record: Youâve worked on performant, user-facing features at scale, ideally in finance or adjacent industry.
- Balanced mindset: Youâre comfortable working independently in an async environment, but also enjoy coming together to collaborate as a team. Youâre passionate about certain technologies and patterns, but also recognize there are trade-offs in different scenarios. You donât see everything in absolutes, and identify the underlying dimensions to make decisions.
- Excellent communicator: You articulate your thoughts and ideas clearlyâand pass the mic to empower others to be heard.
- Interest in DeFi: Whether youâre completely new to DeFi or an accomplished degen, youâre excited to create a more decentralized, equitable financial system.
What Orcaâs offers
- Opportunity to learn and develop Solana DeFi.
- Competitive compensation and ORCA token allocation.
- Flexible work schedule.
- Budget for a new computer or other work equipment.
- Reimbursement for working from an office or cafĂŠ.
- Option to work remotely or from Orcaâs office in New York City.
- Paid subscriptions to GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or other tools that make you more productive.
Orcaâs stack
- UI built with Next.js, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS, deployed to Vercel.
- Backend services built in NodeJS/Rust, backed by PostgreSQL.
- React Query and Zustand to fetch and manage app state.
- Solana smart contracts written in Rust using Anchor.
- AWS Copilot to deploy servers and Docker to develop in a stable environment.
- Migrating away from Create React App and MongoDB.
- GitHub, Linear, Notion, Slack.

How do I get a job at DeFi?
Getting a job in the DeFi (decentralized finance) industry can be a competitive process, but there are a few steps you can take to increase your chances of finding a job in this field:
- Build up your skills and knowledge: To work in DeFi, you'll likely need to have a strong understanding of blockchain technology, as well as other related technologies such as smart contracts and cryptocurrency. Consider taking online courses or earning a degree in a relevant field to build up your skills and knowledge.
- Network with industry professionals: Attend meetups and conferences related to DeFi and make connections with professionals in the industry. Networking can be a valuable way to learn about job openings and get your foot in the door at a DeFi company.
- Create a strong online presence: Many DeFi companies will look at your online presence (such as your LinkedIn profile and personal website) when considering you for a job. Make sure to showcase your skills and accomplishments online and keep your profile up to date.
- Apply for relevant job openings: Keep an eye out for job openings at DeFi companies and apply for positions that align with your skills and experience. Apply for DeFi Jobs without Experience. Tailor your resume and cover letter to the specific job you're applying for and highlight any relevant experience or skills you have.
- Consider internships or volunteer work: DeFi Internships or volunteer work can be a great way to get your foot in the door and gain valuable experience in the DeFi industry. Many companies also offer internships to students, so consider applying for an internship if you're still in school.
- Be persistent: keep trying if you don't get a job right away. It can take time to find the right opportunity, but with the right skills and determination, you can land a job in the DeFi industry.
