About Bitcoin Culture Hub
Bitcoin Culture Hub (BCH) is the gateway to Bitcoin’s cultural soul, uniting newcomers, creators, collectors, and college students to make Bitcoin discoverable, personal, and unforgettable. Our unified platform bridges Web2 familiarity with Web3 innovation, tackling the 70% churn rate of new crypto users through personalized feeds, gamified quests, and creator tools (e.g., NFT badges, dynamic archetype quizzes). Join us to build the infrastructure powering Bitcoin’s cultural adoption for billions!
Role Overview
As a Backend Engineer for an 8-week, semester-long internship (starting February 2026), you’ll help design and build the core backend infrastructure for BCH’s collectibles marketplace from the ground up. You’ll be provided with Lovable mockups and developer support, and you'll develop scalable APIs and Bitcoin-specific functionality to support 10,000 monthly active users, with a focus on reliability, fast transactions, and smooth onboarding.
You’ll ship foundational marketplace features needed for future listing, discovery, and user identity flows. Working closely with a Technical Product Manager, you’ll structure APIs and backend architecture to be ready for future React frontend integration.
Exceptional performance may lead to a contract extension and future pay.
Responsibilities
- Backend Development:
- Build scalable RESTful APIs using Python (FastAPI) or Node.js (Express.js) to support personalized feeds, gamified quests, and a global marketplace for 10,000 monthly active users.
- Develop and optimize databases (e.g., PostgreSQL for user data, MongoDB for creator content) and search systems (e.g., ElasticSearch for feeds) to handle moderate-scale traffic.
- Design APIs with future Web2 frontend integration (e.g., React) in mind, ensuring flexibility for an upcoming frontend developer.
- Web3 Integration:
- Implement Bitcoin-specific features, such as an NFT badge system (using Ordinals) and dynamic archetype quiz (with Lightning-powered microtransactions), to drive user engagement.
- Learn and apply Web3 technologies (e.g., Bitcoin Dev Kit, Lightning Network) to simplify onboarding and address user pain points like crypto complexity.
- Collaboration & Support:
- Translate technical work into user-friendly outcomes, ensuring Web2 familiarity for newcomers and college students.
- Testing & Documentation:
- Use test-driven development (TDD) to achieve 99.9% platform uptime and <1s transaction latency, prioritizing security and session management.
- Document APIs and deployment processes (using Git/GitHub)
- Continuous Learning:
- Research Web3 tools (e.g., Lightning, Ordinals) using resources like Bitcoin Dev Kit, dedicating 10% of time to learning to keep BCH’s platform cutting-edge.
Qualifications
- Mid-level expertise in backend development with Python (FastAPI), Node.js (Express.js), or similar open-source stacks.
- Experience with RESTful API development, relational (e.g., PostgreSQL) and non-relational (e.g., MongoDB) databases, and search technologies (e.g., ElasticSearch).
- Willingness to learn Web3 technologies (e.g., Bitcoin, Lightning Network, Ordinals); prior Web3 experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of web application security, session management, and best practices.
- Proficiency with Git/GitHub and agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum).
- Bias for action: ability to prototype, test, and deploy features in a 10-week timeframe.
- Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Passion for Bitcoin’s cultural and technical potential, especially for onboarding newcomers and college students.
- Ability to work independently in a lean startup, with readiness to collaborate with a future frontend developer.
What We Offer
- Direct mentorship from UCLA Anderson MBA Graduates, CEO (Serial Entrepreneur) and Product Manager (Ex-Salesforce) with full support to innovate and learn Web3.
- Access to open-source tools and cloud infrastructure to build a scalable Web3 platform.
- Hands-on experience in a high-growth startup shaping Bitcoin’s cultural narrative.
- Collaboration with a global Bitcoin community and a marketing intern to drive user growth.
- Potential for a paid contract extension based on performance.
- Flexible, remote-friendly work with occasional travel for team syncs or events.
How to Apply
Send your resume, a cover letter explaining your interest in Bitcoin and BCH, and a link to a GitHub project or API you’ve built to [email protected].
Bonus: Propose a simple Marketplace design to enhance BCH’s platform.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Join us to power Bitcoin’s cultural future!
