About NEAR

NEAR Protocol is a developer-first blockchain that emphasizes convenience and speed of development on the NEAR platform while minimizing the entrance barrier for developers coming from the blockchain ecosystem, as well as regular web and mobile development space.

Mission of NEAR Inc is to help launch decentralized projects, which includes among other things providing the platform, the tooling, and the core applications to integrate with.

We are looking for a talented, meticulous, and productive product designer who loves working in an energetic and free-thinking environment, feels comfortable challenging opinions, and most importantly who shares with us the same desire to make the web free again. We’re especially excited about generalist designers with a strong focus on their craft, UX research, quick iteration and who are keen to influence product strategy.

We encourage people of all backgrounds to apply. NEAR is committed to creating an inclusive culture, and we celebrate diversity of all kinds.

About The Role:

The mission of this position is to rapidly create web and mobile application interfaces, engage feedback from stakeholders both internally and from the community, and work with builders to help shape the direction and usability of the product.

Product Design and Product Management

  • Contribute to overall strategy and decision-making about product direction
  • Help deliver and refine clear storytelling around product needs and opportunities
  • Create, collaborate, and iterate on flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity interface and interaction design
  • Design and ship high quality product improvements to existing products as well as new features
  • Help to establish, document, and implement a new design system, setting us up to scale our team and product
  • Work on features with ownership end-to-end, from the research phase all the way through to implementation
  • Identify problems, define goals and opportunities, test hypotheses and prototype solutions, perform user research, and collaborate closely with engineers
  • Facilitate design reviews and usability testing to gather feedback on your directions and proposed solutions

UX Research

  • Coordinate and perform user research, to make sure we're always talking to our users and listening to their feedback
  • Perform regular competitive analysis to learn about how other products are approaching similar problems in order to determine how we might approach these problems ourselves
  • Synthesize and incorporate feedback from research into product and design. Turn user feedback into actionable change
  • Gather feedback internally, from the NEAR ecosystem and community, and iterate based on the needs we identify

What We're Looking For:

  • 5+ years of professional design experience across UI/UX, user research and app design
  • Building design systems using tools like Figma
  • Experience with building interfaces to enable creators to create
  • Professional experience working in fast-paced startup teams and with multiple applications
  • A relentless hunger to learn
  • Blazing intelligence and a world class standard of execution
  • You should be a great communicator and remain calm under pressure or when juggling multiple priorities

We’d Love If You Have

  • Web and mobile design experience
  • Open source and community engagement experience

Location: Anywhere in the world

Working at NEAR:Roles are posted to this portal on behalf of the companies that make up the NEAR Collective and are typically located anywhere in the world because most of the companies are fully remote. Some hubs are located in Switzerland, Germany, Russia, the US and China. Regardless of where you work, this is a high performance culture that values ownership, execution and professionalism but pairs it with curiosity and experimentation. The vision is big but the right team is behind it.

What does a product designer do?

A product designer is responsible for creating and designing the physical and visual aspects of a product, with the aim of enhancing its functionality, usability, and aesthetics

This involves a broad range of tasks, such as researching and analyzing customer needs, designing user interfaces, creating sketches and prototypes, testing and refining designs, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the final product meets the intended user needs and business goals

A product designer must have a deep understanding of design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and technological advancements in order to create products that are both innovative and functional

They must also have excellent communication skills, as they work closely with engineers, marketing teams, and other stakeholders to ensure that the product is developed on time, within budget, and meets the desired quality standards

Product designers work in a variety of industries, such as consumer electronics, furniture, automotive, fashion, and healthcare, to name a few

They may work for large corporations, small businesses, or as freelance designers, and often collaborate with other designers, engineers, and manufacturers to bring their designs to life

In web3, a product designer is responsible for designing and creating decentralized applications (dApps) and other products that leverage blockchain technology, smart contracts, and decentralized networks

This involves understanding the unique technical and functional requirements of web3 products, as well as the principles of decentralization, transparency, and user ownership

Web3 product designers need to be familiar with blockchain technology, smart contract programming languages, and decentralized networks, in order to design products that can operate effectively in a decentralized environment

They need to be able to work with developers and other stakeholders to ensure that the product is designed in a way that maximizes user control and ownership, while minimizing the potential for fraud or malicious activity

Web3 product designers may work on a range of products, such as decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms, non-fungible token (NFT) marketplaces, decentralized social networks, and more

They may also work closely with blockchain developers, economists, and other specialists to create products that are both innovative and practical, while maintaining a strong focus on user experience.
