Building with mass adoption in mind, we are creating a web-based 3D open world with varying levels of gamification integrated as well as opportunities for users to monetize via ownership of digital assets and social interaction. Our goal is to empower creators and communities to build, play, and earn — a world where users of all backgrounds can chart their journeys into a world beyond the physical.

We are seeking an experienced Principal Backend Engineer to join our backend development team. This role involves overseeing the architecture, design, and implementation of server-side features for the ZTX platform. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a passion for gaming and a track record of delivering high-quality software.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of scalable, high-performance, and secure backend services for games, including both core game logic systems and supporting infrastructure
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of backend systems with game design and front-end technologies
• Drive the development and maintenance of backend systems, including databases, APIs, and server logic
• Actively monitor and adopt emerging trends and technologies in online gaming, blockchain and backend development to drive innovation
• Contribute strategically to the planning and direction of our gaming platform, leveraging your expertise to guide technological decisions and long-term vision

About You:

• You have 10+ years of experience in backend development, with a strong proficiency in server-side programming languages, notably Golang.
• Your expertise in database technology is deep and broad, especially with NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB, Cassandra, or ScyllaDB, understanding their strengths and weaknesses.
• You have a proven track record in developing scalable backend systems, showcasing your ability to handle large volumes of data and transactions.
• You possess strong documentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical details, decisions, and architectures in written form, including but not limited to creating comprehensive Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).
• You recognize the critical role of server-authoritative client-server architectures in upholding fairness, integrity, and security within games.
• You value observability and operational excellence, taking ownership of the features you develop by instrumenting and analyzing their performance to understand their success or failure.
• You are skilled in DevOps practices, including Infrastructure as Code with tools like Terraform, enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the development lifecycle.

Bonus Points:

• Experience with building the backend for core game logic, demonstrating a deep understanding of game mechanics and player interactions
• Proficiency with observability tools such as DataDog, Splunk, and Prometheus-compliant tools
• Familiarity with the crypto ecosystem (DeFi, NFTs, identity)
• Experience working on the backend systems of MMO games
• Startup experience, reflecting flexibility, innovation, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments
