You will work in the Core Services fleet, Blackbird squad.
We build, optimize and iterate on the trading engine, a high performing distributed system, which is at the heart of Bitso.
Much like the SR-71, Blackbird's performance and operational achievements place it at the pinnacle of software engineering technology developments.

In order to remain at the forefront of performance and technology, we expect you to:

  • Take ownership of decisions within your domain, helping teammates make better decisions.
  • Provide support and mentorship to your teammates so that they’re able to write and ship code for our most important services
  • Drive, organize, implement and deliver critical fleet level initiatives
  • Drive planning and alignment efforts, supporting teams in achieving their goals and delivery high quality, high performance, working software
  • Define and own goals related to the technical roadmap, ensuring high-quality software/systems.
  • Identify inefficiencies and drive improvements within your domain.
  • Write complex, high-quality processes and procedures.
  • Drive testing and code quality standards, balancing business needs with technical requirements.

Core Services Engineering Manager.

Who You Are

Failure to meet any of the following required qualifications could result in an automatic rejection.

  • +10 years of experience in backend development.
  • Proven working experience with Java 8 or above.
  • Excellent verbal and written language communication skills (English language proficiency required)
  • Proven ability to collaborate in an agile environment.
  • A track record of influencing both stakeholders and team members.
  • We expect solid knowledge of:
      • Test Driven Development and Behaviour Driven Development (Experience with tools like Mockito, Spock, Cucumber etc)
      • Object Oriented and Functional Programming design (Java and Spring mostly) - API Design and Testing.
      • Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment. (Experience with tools like Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, Spinnaker are a great fit)
      • Software Architectures and System Design.
      • Databases (PostgreSQL is a plus)
      • Understanding of Cloud Architectures, Microservices and Distributed Systems.
      • Containerization (Kubernetes and Docker)

    • Desirable (optional)
      • Experience in high frequency trading, algorithmic trading or the trading domain in general
      • Knowledge on how trading systems work
      • Experience designing and building low latency distributed systems

  • Mentorship: Establish explicit mentor/mentee relationships with junior colleagues and scale mentoring to entire teams.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure alignment of software/systems quality, making appropriate trade-offs.
  • Technical Leadership: Drive the design and implementation of large-scale systems and architectures.
  • Troubleshooting: Proficiently troubleshoot issues within your domain and involve necessary stakeholders when needed.
  • Optimization: Implement changes based on operational data to enhance stability and performance.
  • Communication: Foster a culture of clear, effective communication, delivering praise and constructive feedback.
  • Collaboration: Manage cross-team dependencies and commitments, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Promote documentation and knowledge sharing within and across teams.
  • Innovation: Provide technical guidance, set standards, and drive innovation aligned with company goals.
