THE ROLE
As a blockchain engineer focusing on subgraphs, you will be contributing to Messariâs effort on democratizing DeFi data. Our goal is to make on-chain data accessible to the off-chain world in a standardized way, to help people make sense of them. In particular, this involves building subgraphs for individual protocols, transforming and aggregating raw blockchain data into high-level metrics, as well as building the necessary tooling/infrastructure to streamline this process. You will also be involved in defining the key metrics surfaced from the underlying protocols, and the standardization of the subgraph schema.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Gain in-depth knowledge of internal workings of various DeFi protocols. Understand the relationship between different smart contracts, important constructs used to track internal states, and event logs emitted for data derivation.
- Design and implement subgraphs to transform and aggregate raw blockchain data into high-level metrics.
- Design and implement necessary tooling, testing framework, and libraries to make the process as efficient as possible.
- Collaborate with Protocol Specialists, Research Analysts, and Product Managers to shape the standardization of schema and metrics.
WHO YOU ARE:
- 2+ years of work experience in the software industry.
- Have a passion for crypto, smart contracts, and DeFi.
- Good knowledge of solidity and EVM.
- Bonus: deep knowledge of the internal workings of at least 1 DeFi protocol.
- Bonus: familiar with Rust, Cosmos/Solana smart contracts.
What does a blockchain engineer do?
A blockchain engineer is responsible for developing and implementing blockchain-based solutions
Here are some of the key responsibilities of a blockchain engineer:
- Design and develop blockchain protocols: The blockchain engineer is responsible for designing and developing blockchain protocols, including consensus algorithms, data structures, and security protocols.
- Develop decentralized applications: The blockchain engineer builds decentralized applications (DApps) that run on top of blockchain networks.
- Write smart contracts: Smart contracts are self-executing contracts that run on blockchain networks. The blockchain engineer writes smart contracts using programming languages such as Solidity.
- Implement and test blockchain solutions: The blockchain engineer implements and tests blockchain solutions to ensure they work as intended.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest blockchain technologies: The blockchain industry is constantly evolving, and a blockchain engineer must stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies.
- Collaborate with other developers: The blockchain engineer collaborates with other developers, such as front-end developers, to integrate blockchain solutions into larger software applications.
- Ensure security and scalability: The blockchain engineer must ensure that the blockchain solution is secure and scalable to handle a large number of users and transactions.
