Who We Are:
Ethena Labs is building the first crypto-based reward-accruing synthetic dollar protocol. Arthur Hayes is a founding advisor and the team has deep experience across traditional finance and crypto engineering from firms such as Cerberus, Wintermute, BITMEX, Flow Traders, Deribit, Paradigm, GMX, Zircuit, Chainlink and Kaiko. We are backed by every major exchange and trading entity in the space.

What we are Doing:
We are building two interlinked products: a crypto-native synthetic dollar (USDe) and an Internet Bond (sUSDe) accruing rewards via a delta-neutral derivatives portfolio.

We believe creating a synthetic dollar which is not reliant on existing banking infrastructure is the single most important problem to solve and the largest opportunity in crypto today.

USDe will form the first part of a broader ecosystem of products we are building including fixed and floating rate Internet bonds and composable repo markets.

The Role

Ethena has quickly established itself as the fastest growing and most innovative financial product utilising digital asset technology to date. The Head of Trading Technology will own the entire trading technology stack, responsible for the overall strategy, development, and maintenance of Ethena’s trading platform. Which sits at the heart of, and powers, its flagship products: USDe & sUSDe.

The role reports directly into the CTO, and includes leading a small team of trading technology engineers, collaborating with stakeholders in Trading, Risk and Ops teams. This role demands a hands-on leader with deep understanding of building trading systems. You’ll both guide your team and take a lead role in development.

Our focus is on high-quality engineering, resilient system design, development-velocity, and delivering best-in-class execution capabilities.

What You’ll Do

    • Build and Own a Best-in-Class Trading System: Design and implement a robust trading platform that ensures efficient execution of large trade sizes with minimal slippage.
    • Develop Market Data and Execution Capabilities: Build high-performance market data pipelines and ensure seamless integration with multiple trading venues (REST/WS, FIX, and other protocols).
    • Drive New Product and Feature Development: Collaborate with quant and trading teams to develop and implement new trading strategies and execution logic.
    • Foster Software Excellence: Apply modern software development best practices, such as TDD, BDD, test automation, CI/CD pipelines, and SOLID principles.
    • Optimize for Performance and Resilience: Design fault-tolerant architectures with failover mechanisms to ensure high availability and reliability.
    • Mentor and Grow the Team: Lead and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of high-quality engineering and technical excellence.

What We’re Looking For

    • Engineering Leadership in Trading Technology: Proven experience leading and mentoring high-performing engineering teams within trading tech environments such as Investment Banks, Trading firms, Exchanges, or Market Makers.
    • Extensive Experience in Trading Systems Development: Track record of building and supporting trading infrastructure from the ground up, including market data feed handlers, algo engines, backtesting frameworks, and execution platforms.
    • Strong Software Engineering Fundamentals: Expertise in modern development practices (TDD, BDD, CI/CD, SOLID), how to write modular, clean, code, and resilient system design.
    • Deep Understanding of Financial Markets: Strong knowledge of trading mechanisms, security protocols, and infrastructure management across multiple venues.
    • Experience with Crypto Trading Venues and Derivatives: Hands-on experience working with centralized crypto exchanges (CEXs) and trading instruments such as perpetual swaps and deliverable futures.
    • Multi-Venue Trading Experience: Understanding of order routing, trade reconciliation, and execution quality optimization across multiple trading venues.
    • High-Performance System Design: Expertise in optimizing for system performance, ensuring low-latency execution, high throughput, and execution quality.
    • Excellent Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to break down complex challenges into actionable solutions and make strategic technical decisions.
    • Passion for Testing and Automation: Strong advocate for TDD, BDD, and test automation with hands-on experience in unit, integration, regression, performance, and end-to-end testing.
