We are a leading provider of blockchain technologies and infrastructure built on top of Bitcoin. Our mission is to create new technology rails for the financial industry and its four key pillars: storage and management of wealth, borrowing and lending, trading, and payments—and to make Bitcoin useful and accessible for everyone. The company was founded by Dr. Adam Back, one of the Bitcoin pioneers and the inventor of the Hashcash algorithm. Join us and be at the forefront of the financial revolution! Blockstream seeks a visionary CMO to lead marketing strategy and operations, aligning all product lines—consumer-focused applications and wallets, enterprise solutions, Layer‑2 infrastructure products, and asset management—under a unified growth narrative. This executive will report directly to the COO/President and spearhead both organic expansion and M&A integration to position Blockstream as the go‑to provider of Bitcoin-based infrastructure. The role involves close collaboration with the company’s business executives responsible for each product segment, and you’ll be expected to work from our Menlo Park office 30% of the time.

What You’ll Be Doing (Responsibilities): Strategic Leadership & Brand Positioning

Develop a cohesive, multichannel marketing strategy that elevates Blockstream as the premier Bitcoin infrastructure provider for enterprises, governments, and consumers. Conduct market intelligence, segmentation, and competitive analyses—tracking industry dynamics, incumbent players, emerging technology trends, and the regulatory landscape. Refine brand messaging, tone, and positioning across diverse audiences: enterprise, developer, institutional, and retail.

Unified Demand Generation

Oversee acquisition, engagement, and retention across all three main lines of business: consumer, enterprise, and asset management. Deploy high-performance campaigns across digital channels (Google, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Reddit, TikTok), programmatic advertising, email, SEO/SEM, and events. Advance content, community, and influencer programs tailored to blockchain and Bitcoin, with a focus on trust-building.

M&A Marketing Integration

Lead post-acquisition marketing integration: rebranding, product messaging harmonization, and channel rationalization. Develop coordinated cross-product launch and communication plans to capitalize on synergies.

Marketing Operations & Measurement

Define KPIs such as share of voice, lead generation, CAC, LTV, activation rates, and retention. Establish an advanced marketing tech stack (CRM, analytics, marketing automation), and build data-driven funnels and attribution reporting. Guide A/B testing across campaigns, landing pages, onboarding flows, and in-app prompts.

Thought Leadership & PR

Drive executive-level PR and media strategies, showcasing company wins, product launches, and the significance of our infrastructure (e.g., Liquid, Lightning). Position Blockstream leadership as influential voices in Bitcoin, policy circles, research forums, and developer conferences. Oversee whitepapers, case studies, partner narratives, and speaking opportunities.

Team Development & Collaboration

Build and lead a high-performing global marketing team spanning brand, digital, ABM, PR, product, partner, and content functions. Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Sales, BizDev, and Finance to align go-to-market and corporate goals. Serve as a mentor and culture carrier within Blockstream.

What We Look For in You (Required Qualifications):

Location: Preferably Bay Area, hybrid; expected to work from our Menlo Park office 30% of the time. Leadership: 10+ years of experience leading marketing teams at B2B2C technology, fintech, or blockchain companies. Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of Bitcoin, Layer‑2 networks (e.g., Lightning), DeFi, and sidechains; ability to articulate protocol differentiation. Strategic & Data-Driven: Experience with market segmentation, competitive mapping, product positioning, and M&A brand integration. Demand Generation Expertise: Mastery of acquisition, lifecycle, funnel optimization, channel mix, and collaboration with performance teams. Operational Excellence: Strong analytical skills in dashboards, CRM, and MarTech stack implementation. Communications: Exceptional writing, public speaking, PR, and marketing agency oversight skills; experience collaborating with IR. Organizational Leadership: Proven track record of building, mentoring, and scaling global teams in high-growth, geographically distributed environments. Collaboration & Influence: Comfortable presenting to the Board, investors, and C‑suite; strong cross-functional collaboration. Experience with public companies is a big plus. Education: MBA or equivalent advanced business degree (preferred).
