We seek a talented network infrastructure engineer to help us develop and optimize low-latency networks for a high-performance blockchain. Your role is to design and configure high-performance network equipment to optimize block times and throughput. Additionally, you will work with an ecosystem of outside contributors to guide your work and influence the overall direction of the project.

You will also share your knowledge with the engineering team to help them make smart networking decisions. As the first network infrastructure engineer on the team, your expertise will be highly valuable for many projects.

Good candidates for this role will have a background working on high-frequency trading applications. They are deep subject matter experts in networking and can take major projects from early-stage design through completion. They also have excellent communication skills that enable them to work with team members with other specializations and the broader crypto community.

Location: Chicago, IL (not restrictive, but a nice to have)

Your Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and support global latency-optimized network infrastructure for a blockchain network.

• Support and troubleshoot a wired high-performance network environment

• Take an automated, data-driven approach to diagnosing and solving complex network infrastructure issues such as micro-bursting, jitter, and queuing.

• Own and project manage global network initiatives from requirements gathering, design review, implementation, deployment, and documentation.

• Develop automation tools and take a DevOps approach to improve network management efficiency, deployment, and maintenance of blockchain applications.

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Experience supporting a large-scale global network environment

• Background developing extremely low-latency networking infrastructure, e.g., for high-frequency trading

• Advanced knowledge and troubleshooting of IP networking, TCP/ IP

• Advanced knowledge of Switching, Routing (BGP, OSPF) and Multicast (IGMP, PIM)

• Experience working with one or more of the following hardware platforms (Cisco, Mellanox, Arista)

• Experience with scripting languages (Python preferred) and expertise with git and REST or JSON

• Experience working with automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)

• Experience with databases and big data tools (i.e. MySQL, PostgreSQL, Splunk, InfluxDB, Grafana).

• Experience with monitoring tools (i.e. Icinga, Splunk, Kapacitor).

• Strong Linux Shell (all utilities) experience

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Proven ability to operate in a fast-paced environment

• Collaborative approach to complex problem solving, with a positive can-do attitude.

• At least 5+ years of networking experience

• At least 1+ year of scripting experience

• CCIE certification or equivalent experience

• Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Information Technology)

• Previous experience demonstrating strategic thinking skills and maturity in tackling complex problems, dealing with people, technology, and processes
