The team

Kraken’s Pro business unit is responsible for our global exchange businesses and trading platforms, including our flagship Kraken Pro web and mobile products, high performance APIs and connectivity, and matching infrastructure across spot, margin and derivative products. Our secure, trusted platform and deep  liquidity fuel a wide range of clients and partners, from individuals making their first trade on our powerful yet elegant GUIs, to the most sophisticated algorithmic trading firms and prime brokerages.

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Principal Product Manager  to help lead the development and evolution of our Pro web and mobile platforms. This role demands a strategic, entrepreneurial and obsessive practitioner with deep expertise in  trading and product management, combined with an ability to shape client experience UX and continually raise the bar on our world-class trading experience.

As a hands-on leader, you will be responsible for helping to shape and execute upon the product vision, and for building, scaling, profitable and safe operation of our market-leading UI platforms. Our success will require your collaboration with senior cross-functional partners across product,  engineering, design, marketing, client engagement, biz dev, finance, compliance, and operations.

Our objectives are to provide clients with the fastest and most reliable trading; the deepest liquidity and global market access; best in class design and UX; capital efficiency and instrument breadth; advanced tools and connectivity and resources for learning and automating. You will play a crucial part in meeting these objectives.

The opportunity

• Ship intuitive,powerful UX tailored to the professional trader, incorporating the best principles from both traditional and crypto-native platforms. Eliminate pain points and friction.

• Establish detailed product requirements and documentation including designs and diagrams, calculations, API specifications, policies and processes, and take ownership of their successful build and end-to-end delivery. 

• Use an efficient combination of experience, competitive intelligence, research, experimentation, client feedback, analytics and gut instinct to develop clear, detailed plans and ruthlessly prioritised roadmaps and backlogs.

• Partner with Pro BU and cross-functional leaders to accelerate product adoption and growth, improving across every geo and stage of the client lifecycle, from marketing to activation to retention. 

• Take ownership over specific metrics and business outcomes. Define, track and analyze KPIs to understand product performance, client behaviour and to guide data-driven product development.

• Keep track of industry trends, regulatory developments, and competition across CeFi, DeFi and TradFi to ensure Kraken is positioned for long-term success in a highly dynamic market.

• Align colleagues on our shared goals, and the plan to reach those goals.

• Reinforce a passionate, high-performance and high-velocity, outcome-focused and low-ego culture.

Skills you should HODL

• 8+ years of product management experience.

• Understanding of trading, margin, futures, FX, options, backend systems and flow-of-funds.

• First hand experience in trading on both cryptocurrency and traditional exchanges

• Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams to deliver complex, high-impact products .

• Strong quantitative and analysis skills, including SQL and a language like Python.

• Strong knowledge of trading market participants, their different incentives and constraints. 

• Macro-to-micro versatility: obsessive attention to detail and first principles thinking

• Passion, self-drive and Intellectual honestly. 

• Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and  the ability to distill complex ideas.

Nice to haves

• Experience in both traditional finance and the digital asset space.

• Experience working in a regulated environment and collaborating with legal and compliance,

• Familiarity with the most relevant rules and regulations (MiCA, MiFID, MTL, etc)

• Background in computer science, software engineering or applied mathematics.

• Understanding of margin trading, futures, FX, options, backend systems and flow-of-funds

• Familiarity with REST and Websockets APIs
