About Somnia:
Somnia is revolutionizing blockchain infrastructure by bringing the worldâs data fully on-chain. As a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain, we enable real-time, reactive decentralized applications (dApps) across gaming, social networks, metaverses, and beyond. With unmatched scalability, sub-second finality, and an advanced execution model, Somnia is redefining how data is stored and utilised on-chain.
Somnia is being developed by Virtual Society Foundation, an independent organisation initiated by Improbable, a British start-up that has been at the forefront of building virtual worlds for over a decade. VSF received initial funding from MSquared, which raised $150 million in funding from a16z crypto, SoftBank, Mirana Ventures, CMT Digital, and SIG.
Your Mission:
We are seeking an experienced Blockchain Operations Engineer to build and maintain a robust cloud-based architecture supporting the Somnia Blockchain. This includes deploying and managing our nodes (full nodes and validators) on Google Cloud, ensuring continuous development and operation. Your role will also involve onboarding and supporting new partners in running these nodes effectively.
Our current architecture is based on Google Cloud where the main infrastructure is deployed to support our testnet and the development efforts of the core team. We use Docker, Kubernetes and Helm to deploy the node images and Terraform and Ansible to deploy infrastructure. Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring and Bazel to coordinate different processes on the project
Responsibilities:Â
Design and implement automated CI/CD pipelines for deploying and scaling Somnia nodes across various environments.
Architect cloud-based solutions on Google Cloud (GCP) to optimize the performance and reliability of blockchain nodes, including the availability of RPC endpoints for external partners.
Develop comprehensive monitoring systems using Prometheus and Grafana to track node/network performance and set up proactive alerts.
Participate in a rotating on-call support system to handle critical issues as they arise.
Document processes clearly and assist third-party node runners with initial setups and ongoing operational support.
Qualifications:Â
Minimum of 3 years in Blockchain operations or DevOps roles, with hands-on experience in infrastructure and configuration management using Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, and Ansible.
Proven track record in designing reliable and safe cloud solutions, with a preference for Google Cloud Platform; additional experience with AWS is advantageous.
Strong ability to document and automate technical processes effectively.
Excellent communication skills, with the capacity to collaborate effectively across engineering teams and with third parties.
Role Location:
The company itself is a remote-first business, so you will have the flexibility to work in other locations throughout the globe - preference on Europe / Asia remote.
Reporting Lines:
This role will report directly to the Head of Engineering.
