BitGo is the leading infrastructure provider of digital asset solutions, delivering custody, wallets, staking, trading, financing, and settlement services from regulated cold storage. Since our founding in 2013, we have focused on enabling our clients to securely navigate the digital asset space. With a global presence and multiple Trust companies, BitGo serves thousands of institutions, including many of the industry's top brands, exchanges, and platforms, and millions of retail investors worldwide. As the operational backbone of the digital economy, BitGo handles a significant portion of Bitcoin network transactions and is the largest independent digital asset custodian, and staking provider, in the world. For more information, visit www.bitgo.com.This role will require being full-time onsite at our Toronto office to support collaborative team dynamics and innovative problem-solving. BitGo is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build and evolve the ledger systems behind our clients' balances, trading positions, and financial reporting. You'll work at the intersection of software engineering and accounting — designing the double-entry ledger primitives that other engineering teams build on, and making sure new products are designed with financial correctness in mind from day one rather than retrofitted after launch. This is a rare role for someone who genuinely understands accounting fundamentals and wants to apply that knowledge to hard distributed-systems problems in a live financial platform. What You'll Do
Design and extend our core ledger — accounts, postings, and the account-type/ledger structures that every financial product is built on. Own the chart-of-accounts and reporting surface that connects engineering data to financial statements and downstream reporting. Work across the boundary between on-chain data and off-chain books: balance verification, reconciliation, and proof-of-reserve >
What We're Looking For
Real, working knowledge of accounting fundamentals: double-entry bookkeeping, chart-of-accounts design, financial statements (P&L, balance sheet), and what reconciliation and audit actually require in practice. 5+ years of backend software engineering experience, with a track record of owning data-model design for systems where correctness is the product, not just uptime. Strong instincts for extensible system design — schemas and APIs that can grow with new requirements instead of requiring repeated rework. Comfort reading and critiquing technical designs across multiple systems, not just writing your own. Strong cross-functional communication — you'll work directly with Finance, Data Engineering, and Product on shared designs.
Nice to Have
Experience in crypto or blockchain infrastructure — on-chain balance models, custody, or wallet architecture. Experience with event-driven or Kafka-based service architectures. Prior experience in an embedded "accounting architecture" or financial-systems design-review role at a fintech or crypto company.
