We’re looking for an FPGA Code Engineering Support specialist to help design, implement, and optimize low-level logic on FPGAs used in our high-performance networking systems. You’ll work alongside protocol engineers, network architects, and hardware partners to build and support custom compute and switching infrastructure that powers the DoubleZero network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, simulate, and debug FPGA code (VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog) for custom hardware

  • Assist with the integration of FPGA logic into broader hardware and networking systems

  • Support synthesis, place-and-route, and timing analysis workflows

  • Maintain and refactor existing FPGA codebases to improve performance or adapt to new requirements

  • Work with hardware and DevOps teams to deploy and monitor FPGA systems in production environments

  • Contribute to hardware validation and bring-up of new boards or modules

  • Document technical specifications, design notes, and test procedures

You Should Have

  • Proficiency in VHDL or Verilog and experience with simulation/debugging tools (e.g., ModelSim, Vivado)

  • Solid understanding of digital design concepts: state machines, pipelining, timing closure, etc.

  • Familiarity with FPGA toolchains from Xilinx

  • Hands-on experience working with real-time or latency-sensitive systems

  • Comfortable working in a Linux-based development environment and using Git

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially across hardware/software interfaces

  • Experience implementing mathematical functions and encryption/decryption algorithms in hardware

  • Maintain and refactor existing FPGA codebases to improve performance or adapt to new requirements, including experience designing ABIs and command & control interfaces for integration with broader system components

  • Exposure to high-speed I/O and interconnect protocols (e.g., PCIe, AXI, 100G/400G Ethernet)

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with network protocol acceleration or custom switch fabric design

  • Background in low-latency systems used in finance, AI, or blockchain

  • Ability to write scripts or tools in Python, Bash, or Go to support FPGA workflows

Why Work With Us?

  • Help design the physical layer powering a decentralized, high-performance internet

  • Collaborate with a world-class team building novel infrastructure for web3 and beyond

  • Competitive compensation + significant token upside

  • Flexible remote work with optional off-sites and team retreats

ABOUT DOUBLEZERO

DoubleZero is a decentralized, permissionless protocol that revolutionizes network performance for distributed systems like blockchain. The mission is simple: increase bandwidth and reduce latency.

DoubleZero increases bandwidth by filtering junk data that currently plagues validators and other network operators. DoubleZero reduces latency by connecting these filters with underutilized private fiber links in the form of a mesh network. By combining these improvements and routing the right data through optimized, low-latency paths, the DoubleZero protocol empowers blockchains and other systems to reach performance levels that are currently impossible.

In short, DoubleZero is a new Internet for distributed systems. It is supported by two organizations: DoubleZero Foundation, which drives the adoption, decentralization, security, and advancement of the protocol; and Malbec Labs, which develops the technical components of the protocol itself. We look forward to hearing from you.
