Who are we?

We believe Ethereum has the potential to solve some of humanity’s most crucial coordination issues. Since our initial inception as a research group, we have sought to scale both its technology and values.

At present, the most pressing bottleneck to the growth of Ethereum is its performance and scalability. We are building the most elegant solution to this problem. We do this in the open (under an MIT open source license) because we believe in open source innovation and its ability to accelerate growth.

OP Labs contributes to the Optimism protocol, an extension to Ethereum that scales both its technology and values. Optimism enables orders of magnitude of improved performance and scalability to Ethereum while doubling down on its commitment to public goods.

The Optimism Collective leads the blockchain protocol landscape, dedicated to fostering a scalable and sustainable ecosystem. Optimism’s ethos, in sync with Ethereum's vision, tackles pivotal coordination challenges of the digital age. Optimism’s goal is to harmonize private incentives with public good, shaping a resilient future for the Internet. Optimism’s scope spans diverse areas like Gaming, DeFi, NFTs, and Enterprise.

Position Overview:

Are you ready to help shape the future of Ethereum? At OP Labs, we’re at the forefront of scaling Ethereum through the OP Stack, introducing groundbreaking features like interoperability and new multichain paradigms. As part of our Developer Experience (DevX) team, you'll have the unique opportunity to lead this transformation by building and advocating for tools that make Superchain development seamless and accessible.

In this role, you won’t just be working with tools like Foundry, Viem, and Wagmi—you’ll be at the cutting edge of new paradigms, tinkering with the latest technologies, collaborating with top developers in the ecosystem, and guiding them to unlock new possibilities. You’ll be the bridge between the OP Stack and application developers, using your expertise to directly influence the next generation of decentralized applications.

If you're passionate about building in the open, thrive on tinkering with new technologies, have full stack experience and love being an active voice in the developer community, we'd love to hear from you!

What are the role responsibilities?

Your north star is to serve app developers building on the Superchain via several workflows:

  • Build and maintain Developer tooling: Actively contribute to the improvement of our developer tools like supersim and super-cli.

  • Build and Maintain public API/Services: Build tools like relayers, faucets, and specialized APIs that enable developers to build seamless superchain UX.

  • Community engagement: Interact with the developer community to gather feedback and share it internally to help drive product enhancements.

  • Internal collaboration: Work closely with engineering, product, and marketing teams across the organization to align on product specs and requirements and ensure our tools target the right use cases and personas.

  • Open source contributions: Prefer open source efforts, working in the open to improve the superchain developer experience.

What skills do you bring?

  • Strong background in full stack software engineering with experience building full stack application and APIs (experience building developer tools and/or blockchain applications is nice to have, as is some understanding of JSON-RPC and the EVM).

  • Our code is largely written in Typescript, Solidity, and Golang. You should be comfortable writing in these languages or confident that you can pick them up quickly.

  • History of contribution to open source projects.

  • A deep interest in improving tools for developers and making the development process easier, more efficient, and more enjoyable. Empathy for the developer experience and unending curiosity about their needs.

  • You should feel comfortable owning the infrastructure part of the application stack (CI/CD, databases, k8s, etc.) when needed, or be willing to learn.

What will you like about us?

  • We take care of our employees. Competitive compensation, fully paid medical, dental, and vision, and a 4% 401K match—learn more about our benefits, culture, and all recruiting FAQ here.

  • We take pride in the accomplishments of our teammates and support each other in doing the best work of our careers.

  • Our team is a diverse group of people from varied backgrounds. We cherish our eclecticism and consider it a great strength.

  • We’re fully remote, deeply engaged, highly skilled, and like to have fun.

  • We think long-term. Our founders have been scaling Ethereum since 2015.

What does a full stack developer in web3 do?

A full stack web3 developer is a developer who has expertise in the full stack of technologies that are used to build web3 applications

These applications use the decentralized, distributed nature of the web3 network to provide users with a secure and decentralized way of accessing and interacting with online services and applications. The responsibilities of a full stack web3 developer will vary depending on the specific project and the needs of the team they are working with

In general, though, a full stack web3 developer will be responsible for: designing and building the front-end and back-end of web3 applications, as well as implementing and maintaining the underlying blockchain infrastructure

This will often involve working with a variety of different technologies and programming languages, such as Solidity for smart contract development, JavaScript and HTML for front-end development, and various blockchain protocols and frameworks. Additionally, a full stack web3 developer may also be responsible for working with the web3 community to help drive adoption and integration of web3 technologies, as well as staying up-to-date on the latest developments in the field and contributing to the broader web3 ecosystem.
