As a Member of Technical Staff at a16z Crypto, you will partner with the Technical Staff team in architecting, building, and operating internal systems to interact with numerous crypto technologies in an easy, scalable, and safe way. These systems span across secure infrastructure, interactions with smart contracts, to whatever web3 inventions come next – it is a unique opportunity to work with up and coming crypto technologies as they come into existence and scale. The Member of Technical Staff will work closely with a16z Crypto's investment and operation teams to support the design and systems that enable native interactions with protocols. We are looking for a Member of Technical Staff with a strong engineering background along with a passion for crypto (though not necessarily a lot of experience in the space). This role will report to the CTO of a16z Crypto. To join our team, you should be excited to: • Build and cultivate long-term relationships • In collaboration with the Technical Staff team, design and implement systems and processes to enable the firm to interact with new crypto technologies in novel ways • Understanding of new crypto protocols and technologies to become an early subject-matter expert on the engineering side • Contribute to internal infrastructure and engineering practices for making the next system integration easier, safer, and more featureful • Work closely with IT and security teams to ensure systems are operational and secure while achieving business objectives

Minimum Qualifications • Strong background in computer science and engineering (formal degree not required) • Relevant multi-year work or academic experience in software engineering or related fields such as security engineering, software infrastructure, data engineering, etc. • Experience with programming languages (like Python, C, Rust, Go, etc.) popular for systems programming preferred. Smart contract languages are a bonus! • Passion for engineering quality on both building new systems and improving existing ones: testing infrastructure and methodologies, code hygiene, change review • Demonstrated skills in gathering business requirements and incorporating them into novel system design • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills • Demonstrated willingness to both teach others and learn new technologies

a16z culture  • We do only first class business and only in a first class way • We take a long view of relationships, because we are in the relationship business  • We believe in the future and bet the firm that way • We are all different, we recognize that, and we win • We celebrate the good times • We do it for the team • We play to win

At a16z we are always looking to hire the absolute best talent and recognize that diversity in our experiences and backgrounds is what makes us stronger. We hire candidates of any race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital or family status, disability, Veteran status, and any other status. These differences are what enables us to work towards the future we envision for ourselves, our portfolio companies, and the World. What does a full stack developer in web3 do?

A full stack web3 developer is a developer who has expertise in the full stack of technologies that are used to build web3 applications

These applications use the decentralized, distributed nature of the web3 network to provide users with a secure and decentralized way of accessing and interacting with online services and applications. The responsibilities of a full stack web3 developer will vary depending on the specific project and the needs of the team they are working with

In general, though, a full stack web3 developer will be responsible for: designing and building the front-end and back-end of web3 applications, as well as implementing and maintaining the underlying blockchain infrastructure

This will often involve working with a variety of different technologies and programming languages, such as Solidity for smart contract development, JavaScript and HTML for front-end development, and various blockchain protocols and frameworks. Additionally, a full stack web3 developer may also be responsible for working with the web3 community to help drive adoption and integration of web3 technologies, as well as staying up-to-date on the latest developments in the field and contributing to the broader web3 ecosystem.
