Let’s go!  Your mission As an Engineering Manager for the Regulatory Onboarding Team, you will lead a team of skilled backend engineers focused on ensuring seamless, secure, and compliant user onboarding processes. Your team plays a crucial role in enabling millions of users to join Bitpanda by delivering robust user verification services, integrating with external verification providers, and managing regulatory-critical systems. Your mission is to build scalable, high-performance backend systems that guarantee trust, safety, and regulatory adherence from the very first user interaction. What you’ll do

Lead and scale a high-performing backend team focused on regulatory onboarding and verification, fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous learning. Own the delivery and reliability of critical backend services, ensuring smooth and secure operations. Translate complex regulatory requirements into scalable technical solutions in close collaboration with Product, Compliance, and Legal teams. Align and coordinate with other Engineering Managers and Frontend teams to manage dependencies and deliver a seamless onboarding experience. Drive the technical roadmap while supporting team growth through coaching, mentoring, and structured feedback.

Who you are

An experienced engineering leader with a track record of building and leading backend teams in fast-paced, high-stakes environments. Deep understanding of backend architecture, Microservices, API design, and system security. Strong experience in integrating and managing third-party services, especially in regulated industries (e.g. identity verification, KYC providers). As well as familiar with regulatory frameworks in fintech or crypto (e.g. AML, GDPR) and how to translate them into product and system requirements (nice to have). Comfortable working cross-functionally with compliance, legal, and product stakeholders. Clear communicator and decision-maker who thrives on balancing technical depth with business context.
