Retail is a $5T market opportunity! 💻 Role The Platform Engineering team is responsible for building backend platforms on Whatnot. As the Engineering Manager of the Platform Engineering team, you’ll focus on developing, maintaining, and setting the vision for a scalable platform that serves and enables Whatnot engineers to develop product features at lightning speed while ensuring customers have a stable and secure experience. In addition, you’ll:
Hire and develop engineers across all platform applications and backend systems. collaborate with product engineering and infrastructure engineering counterparts to set strategic direction of the team, advocating for technical platform solutions that help us grow Whatnot as a whole. plan and manage projects, coordinating and aligning your team‘s goals against others across the business.

hands-on experience with public cloud environments (AWS, GCP) using Kubernetes, Docker, and IaC tools like Terraform. previous experience at a hyper-growth startup. You’re an excellent problem solver and a self-starter who can hit the ground running with little direction. technical leader with hands-on experience in large distributed systems. experience leading a team of engineers, guiding them through both their career development, and executing in a high growth environment. have low ego, an appetite to build, and employ good judgment in making hard trade-offs with limited resources. effectively recruit, mentor, retain, and measure high performing teams. can effectively manage stakeholders, competing priorities and deal with ambiguity have substantial hands-on experience of doing the job you’ll be managing. a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
💰Compensation $215,000 - $285,000/year + benefits + equity The salary range may be inclusive of several levels that would be applicable to the position. Final salary will be based on a number of factors including, level, relevant prior experience, skills and expertise.
