Engineering at Circle:
In 2020, Circle unveiled Circle APIs: a set of solutions and smarter technology to help businesses accept payments in a more global, scalable and efficient alternative to traditional banking rails (spoiler: we're using USD Coin under the hood).
In 2021, Circle launched Circle Account and Verite to help our users earn, manage, and secure their funds. We built foundational industry partnerships which grew USDC market cap by 10x+. To broaden the utility of USDC, we also added support for digital dollars on 6 new blockchains: SOL, XLM, HBAR, TRX, AVAX, FLOW.
Over the next year, we will continue to grow USD Coin and the Circle API platform to become the #1 US dollar stablecoin of the world by building, scaling and partnering with both web2 and web3 ecosystems. Expect to see product announcements and launches for L1, L2, DEFI, and Identity solutions!
You will aspire to our four core values:
- Multistakeholder - you have dedication and commitment to our customers, shareholders, employees and families and local communities.
- Mindful - you seek to be respectful, an active listener and to pay attention to detail.
- Driven by Excellence - you are driven by our mission and our passion for customer success which means you relentlessly pursue excellence, that you do not tolerate mediocrity and you work intensely to achieve your goals.
- High Integrity - you seek open and honest communication, and you hold yourself to very high moral and ethical standards. You reject manipulation, dishonesty and intolerance.
Your team is responsible for:
Developers love using Circle APIs but our business partners rely on our client tools for their day-to-day insights and health of their billing stack. To that end, you’ll work on providing a seamless onboarding flow to help new business get their payments off the ground. And as a new business launches with Circle APIs, they use Circle’s dashboards (with your help!) to help manage and optimize their payments. You’ll be part of a small frontend team where you will play a key role in helping us create delightful customer experiences in a sound and scalable way.
You'll work on:
- Challenging (and fun!) problems centered around digital currencies & their adoption. Did we mention that Circle launched a “programmable dollar” called USD Coin (or USDC)?
- Building modern front-end applications with beautiful & consistent UI for our customers
- Partner with our Product and Design teams to define the best UX for the tools we’re building
- Experimentation, A/B tests and client feedback sessions to stay connected to our users and constantly provide delightful experiences
- Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality
You'll bring to Circle:
- 4+ years experience building user interfaces for complex applications with HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
- Experience building responsive, component-based web apps with modern JavaScript front-end frameworks (e.g., Vue, React, Angular)
- A keen sense of knowing when a feature “works” and when it can be improved.
- A focus on coding standards and code quality -- a desire to have great test coverage to enable continuous delivery
- Excellent communication skills, able to collaborate with remote teams, share ideas and present concepts effectively
- Self-starter, you enjoy moving at a fast pace, shipping software that improves the user experience and constantly improving your work with little supervision
Additional Information:
- This position is eligible for day-one PERM sponsorship for qualified candidates.
Circle is on a mission to create an inclusive financial future, with transparency at our core. We consider a wide variety of elements when crafting our compensation ranges and total compensation packages.

Actual starting pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to: relevant experience, skill set, qualifications, and other business and organizational needs. Please note that compensation ranges may differ for candidates in other locations.
Base Pay Range: $135,000 - $180,000
Annual Bonus Target: 12.5%
Also Included: Equity & Benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)). Circle has a discretionary vacation policy. We also provide 10 days of paid sick leave per year and 11 paid holidays per year in the U.S.
What is the meaning of Layer 2?
Layer 2 in the context of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology refers to a secondary framework or protocol that is built on top of an existing blockchain system (the main chain or Layer 1)
The primary purpose of Layer 2 solutions is to solve the scalability and speed issues that many blockchains face, especially those that have become popular and heavily used, like Ethereum
Here are the key aspects of Layer 2 solutions:
- Scalability Enhancement: They help in scaling the main blockchain by handling transactions off the main chain. This reduces the burden on the main chain, allowing for faster and cheaper transactions.
- Types of Layer 2 Solutions: There are various forms of Layer 2 solutions, including state channels, sidechains, plasma chains, and rollups. Each has its own mechanism for interacting with the main chain and handling transactions.
- State Channels: These involve two parties engaging in numerous transactions outside of the main chain, which are then consolidated into a single transaction. This is especially useful for situations where multiple transactions occur between the same parties.
- Sidechains: These are separate blockchains that are connected to the main chain via a two-way peg. They operate independently and can have their own consensus mechanisms but are secured by the main chain.
- Plasma Chains: Plasma chains are similar to sidechains but with a more hierarchical structure. They report back to the main chain regularly and are optimized for mass transaction handling.
- Rollups: Rollups process and store transaction data on a sidechain but post transaction data to the main chain. They come in two varieties: optimistic rollups and zk-rollups, each with its own method of transaction verification.
- Security Considerations: While Layer 2 solutions are generally secure, they can have different security models compared to the main chain. This is an important consideration for users and developers.
- Impact on User Experience: For end-users, Layer 2 solutions can greatly improve the experience by reducing transaction fees and increasing transaction speeds.
- Adoption and Development: Many blockchain projects are actively developing Layer 2 solutions to enhance their networks. This is an ongoing area of innovation in the blockchain space.
