DESCRIPTION: The AI Hardware Engineer is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and passionate individual to join the team at Foundry, a subsidiary of the blockchain industry’s most prolific and active investor, Digital Currency Group. Reporting to the VP of AI, the AI Hardware engineer will design, develop, execute, and optimize hardware systems for AI applications.

This position is required to sit in Rochester, NY.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:You will create and launch custom hardware solutions for AI-powered blockchain applications and integrate them with software components to drive innovation and efficiency. A chance to optimize performance, power consumption, and thermal management through troubleshooting and debugging.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Design and develop high-performance hardware systems tailored for AI applications, including processors, accelerators, and other specialized components.
• Optimize hardware architectures for AI workloads, focusing on performance, efficiency, and scalability.
• Work closely with AI software engineers to ensure seamless integration of hardware and software components, optimizing overall system performance.
• Develop and test hardware prototypes, ensuring they meet design specifications and performance tests.
• Conduct performance benchmarking and analysis of AI hardware, identifying bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
• Work with hardware vendors to evaluate and integrate GPUs into AI infrastructure.
• Stay up to date with latest advancements in the AI hardware technologies and contribute to research and development efforts to keep the company innovative.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for hardware designs, specifications, and testing procedures.
• Provide technical support for hardware-related issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption.

Minimum Qualifications; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in hardware engineering, preferred experience in designing and optimizing hardware for AI applications.
• Understanding of high-performance computing (HPC) principles and techniques.
• Knowledge of computer architecture, memory hierarchies, and data flow optimization.
• Understanding of AI and machine learning algorithms and frameworks.
• Expertise in designing and optimizing GPU-based hardware systems for AI workloads.
• Proficiency in cloud computing platforms and services for deploying and managing GPU environments.
• Experience with containerization platforms like Docker and Kubernetes for GPU orchestration.
• Experience with hardware acceleration technologies such as CUDA, Open CL, or Tensor Cores.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex hardware-software interactions.
• Knowledge of security best practices for AI hardware systems, including data privacy and protection measures.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to leverage cross-functional team structure, working with AI engineers, software developers, and system administrators.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, focused on innovation and continuous learning.

Preferred Qualifications; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge regarding cryptocurrency and/or blockchain principles.
• Passion for decentralization and exploring new technologies.

The salary range for this role is $70,000-$140,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This range only includes base compensation and does not include other tangible benefits such as 401K match, bonuses, overtime pay, and other benefits.
