Your mission

Serve as CoinTracker's first dedicated legal hire, leading the Legal function end-to-end — including commercial agreements, product counsel, corporate governance, and people matters — while enabling product velocity by providing risk-calibrated, business-oriented legal guidance.

Your one-year outcomes

  • Trusted legal partner across the company. You proactively surface legal risks, provide clear guidance on product decisions, and are seen by the team as an accelerant — not a blocker.

  • All commercial agreements handled in-house. Partner agreements, customer contracts, and vendor agreements are drafted, negotiated, and managed internally at high quality.

  • Product development moves faster with legal clarity. Product and engineering teams have clear legal guardrails and timely guidance for launching new features and product lines.

  • Corporate and regulatory risk is well-managed. Governance, privacy, employment matters, and compliance are systematically addressed with risks surfaced early.

What you will do

  • Lead the Legal function at CoinTracker across commercial, product, corporate, and people matters

  • Draft, negotiate, and manage all commercial agreements (partnership deals, customer contracts, vendor agreements, DPAs)

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to provide risk-calibrated legal guidance on new features, product lines, and international expansion

  • Manage corporate governance, equity matters, and board-related legal work

  • Handle people-related legal matters (employment agreements, policies, compliance)

  • Build legal infrastructure from scratch: contract templates, playbooks, and self-serve resources

  • Manage external counsel relationships for specialized matters (IP, regulatory, litigation)

  • Advise on crypto regulatory developments and their implications for CoinTracker's product

What we look for

  • Role-agnostic

    • Trust: Say what you believe. Do what you say. Take ownership broadly

    • Communication: Clear and concise; able to distill complex legal concepts into plain language

  • Role-specific

    • 7-10 years of legal experience post-law school with a mix of law firm and in-house

    • Strong commercial drafting and negotiation skills — can build contracts from scratch

    • Experience serving as product counsel, partnering with Product/Engineering teams

    • Demonstrated ability to provide risk-calibrated advice that enables (not blocks) product development

    • Comfortable operating in ambiguous regulatory environments

    • Experience at a high-growth technology company

    • Self-starter who thrives with autonomy

  • Nice to have

    • Experience at a crypto or fintech company

    • Familiarity with crypto regulatory landscape (SEC, FinCEN, state regulations, MiCA)

    • Background in data privacy (GDPR, CCPA)
