At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

The successful candidate’s role will be the Head of Compliance for Coinbase’s Irish entities (currently a regulated E-Money Institution and two registered VASPs). The role will manage Compliance in a high growth market for Coinbase and the Head of Compliance will directly shape regulatory strategy while balancing Compliance with innovation.

The role will fulfill Coinbase’s mission of being the most trusted cryptocurrency company by overseeing and managing all aspects of Coinbase’s Compliance programme in Ireland. In addition, the Head of Compliance will be responsible for managing the entity’s relationship with the Irish Regulator, Central Bank of Ireland, as well as providing strategic advisory to the Coinbase business and product teams on all types of Compliance issues including all relevant regulatory requirements. This role will be supported by Coinbase’s global Compliance infrastructure and will report to the Director of Compliance for EMEA.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Identify relevant regulatory requirements for Coinbase Ireland and ensure Coinbase’s ongoing compliance with the same, with a large focus on EMI and Consumer protection compliance.
  • Keep ahead of regulatory developments in Ireland and Europe that could impact Coinbase’s business and deploy necessary changes to maintain compliance in partnership with internal stakeholders.
  • Provide regular updates to Irish senior management and the Coinbase Ireland Board of Directors for the three Irish entities regarding the Compliance Programme and overall regulatory landscape. Ensure appropriate escalation of compliance incidents or material issues to Compliance and business leadership and the Board.
  • Oversee / manage regulatory notifications, comment letters, and other communications as required. Handle day-to-day regulatory communications.
  • Note. There role does not cover AML/CTF/Sanctions Compliance.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • 8+ years experience in compliance (preferably in Ireland), including in senior leadership / management roles.
  • Direct, first-hand knowledge of financial services and Compliance experience in an E-Money Institution Firm, plus knowledge of crypto regulations, including direct experience liaising with the Central Bank of Ireland, and/or other EU-equivalent regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to independently manage day-to-day aspects of a Compliance Programme, including audits and exams.
  • Experience in developing and administering internal controls and processes, proven track record of partnership and collaboration with remote, global teams.
  • A professional compliance or finance qualification, and membership of a recognised professional body.

Nice to haves:

  • Prior experience at a cryptocurrency or fintech preferred.
  • PCF experience
