The Role

a16z crypto seeks a creative, dynamic, experiential Events Manager with 7-10+ years experience to lead our large-scale events, special programming, and high-touch brand activations domestically and internationally.

To join our team, you should be excited to:

  • Lead and manage large scale external events as part of our crypto Marketing team. Tentpole events may include: SXSW, NFT.NYC, Art Basel, EthCC, and more
  • Oversee the 12-week summer program for our Research team including hiring and managing a FT contractor, sourcing and building out a temporary office and work space, and developing a 12-week hospitality and premium swag program
  • Own and drive all events and hospitality needs for special programs including: Crypto Startup Accelerator (NYC/SF), book launches, Women in Web3 and more
  • Oversee the full production of premium branded goods from conception to delivery for special projects and events including custom VIP kits, welcome kits, event gifting suites and more.
  • Lead private dining and salon >
  • Work cross-functionally with C-Suite executives, GTM team, Regulatory/Policy, Research, Investment Team and more - to create seamless event and programming execution for a16z crypto’s various needs

  • In this role, we need a candidate who can both be the event creator as well as the ‘boots on the ground’ executing the program flawlessly; we all do it all and there is no hierarchy in our work

Minimum Qualifications

  • Success in this role will be measured by the seamless execution of events, feedback from participants, and the ability to stay within budget while delivering high-impact experiences
  • A minimum of 7-10+ years experience in event production, including producing large-scale events and summits. A mix of agency & in-house experience is preferred
  • Experience managing vendors, budgets, contract negotiation, and technical components such as staffing, security, AV/lighting, etc
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating 1M+ hotel contracts including room blocks, f&b minimums, attrition cut off, etc.
  • Proven ability to learn new systems and tools quickly such as Affinity, Splash, Google Workspace and more
  • A track record navigating ambiguity and stressful situations while translating goals into meaningful plans and metrics
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively troubleshoot and resolve last minute needs in fast-paced, high-visibility situations
  • Frequent travel required with up to 50% travel domestically and internationally
  • Based in NYC or SF; must be able to work from the local a16z office (either SF HQ or NYC HQ) at least two days a week

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $192,000 - $224,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

This role is eligible to participate in the a16z Carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
