Head of Engineering

This is a brand new role at Shakepay, and we are looking for an experienced and impact-focused individual to lead everything engineering at Shakepay, and help us build the best money app in Canada: One that merges the internet of money (bitcoin) and everyday financial products.

As Head of Engineering, you will report to the Chief Technology Officer and lead a growing team of 20+ engineers to build delightful products for all Canadians. We have ambitious goals at Shakepay, and we’re looking for a seasoned leader to help us grow and reimagine financial services to give every Canadian their fair shake.

You will

• Lead and grow a foundational, high performing team of engineers and managers working on complex, full-stack projects with a wide impact across the company
• Coordinate and direct company-wide initiatives, making detailed plans to accomplish technical and product goals
• Foster a culture of excellence by creating an environment that encourages innovation, accountability, and a high degree of engineering craftsmanship.
• Ensure engineers and managers are productive, learning, and doing meaningful work
• Hire, mentor, and manage a world-class engineering team as the company scales
• Own and drive the culture and processes in the engineering team
• Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand to plan and assess the feasibility of projects
• Contribute your fair share of memes to our #dev-null slack channel

Must have

• 3+ years working experience as a software developer
• 7+ years working experience as an engineering manager or higher
• Ability to manage multiple teams spanning software development, QA, data and others
• Proven experience leading an engineering organization at a high growth startup, scaling teams from 20 to 100+ engineers
• Track record of shipping successful, customer-centric digital products in a consumer tech company

Nice to have

• Experience with Node.js, React-Native, Vue, Postgres, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, Datadog
• Experience building financial apps
• Bitcoin knowledge
