The Opportunity: 

We are looking to hire our first Policy & Corporate Counsel.  This role is ideal for a self-driven, collaborative professional coming out of a law firm or corporation who wants to be instrumental in shaping an internal legal department and have a dual focus on policy and regulatory issues related to our mission driven work.

Reporting directly to CCI’s General Counsel and Chief Regulatory Officer, the Policy & Corporate Counsel will work to strengthen development and advancement of CCI’s advocacy goals in the areas of regulatory and legal affairs. You will develop positions and papers, analyze regulatory and legal developments; and together with the General Council, represent the organization’s work to regulators in the US. You will work closely with our members and stakeholder community to educate and evangelize policy. Additionally, in this role, you will advise internal executives on a wide variety of topics, including commercial contracts, employment law, and communications.

Responsibilities:

    • Partner with CCI’s leadership team to further develop the organization’s policies on corporate governance and employment 
    • Draft, negotiate and execute agreements and contracts on behalf of CCI
    • Advise on contract status, legal risks, and the legal liabilities associated with various contracts and transactions
    • Monitor and evaluate US legislation and policies related to the digital assets and financial services industries
    • Coordinate with CCI members to determine needs and goals of policies
    • Analyze existing policies for CCI members, communicate drawbacks and propose strategies to improve effectiveness where appropriate
    • Summarize Congressional bill legislation, identify legal/member issues, and recommend legislative/policy solutions
    • Draft public comment letters
    • Engage with US regulators 
    • Research legal issues that could impact the company
    • Review public marketing and social media materials to assess legal liability concerns
    • Provide training to CCI on a variety of legal topics

Requirements:

    • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited (U.S.) university; current bar admission
    • Minimum 2 to 5 years experience in a large law firm or in-house counsel 
    • Regulatory experience strongly preferred
    • Strong understanding of the digital assets industry and the market conditions and trends affecting the industry
    • Working knowledge of current legal and regulatory aspects affecting financial policy
    • Excellent research, analytical, written and verbal communications skills
    • Strong negotiation skills related to legal, commercial and regulatory issues
    • Demonstrated ability to work across cultures and stakeholder communities 
    • Relationship and consensus-building skills
    • Superior organizational skills; championing an organizational approach to ruthless prioritization
    • Strong collaboration skills
    • Ability to work independently
    • A passion for crypto/web3, humility, and eagerness for continuous learning
    • Comfortable in a fast-moving, high-energy, remote-first environment
    • The ability to travel as needed
