Smart contracts are simply autonomous software that can live forever and run in the open, without the need for maintenance or servers.
The most popular smart contract language until now has been Solidity, but wow it's a mess.
That's why we created Cadence, the world's first high level resource-oriented programming language. Cadence makes smart contract development easier, faster, and safer – with far less scope for errors and a super simple syntax that looks like Swift or Rust but is built from the ground up for smart contracts, NFTs, and decentralized apps.
We are looking to hire several detail-oriented backend engineers who are excited about learning smart contract development through the lens of Cadence specifically – we'll take care of onboarding and giving you a crash course of what makes blockchain development different.
There is massive demand for Cadence developers both internally at Dapper Labs as well as across our partners, both startups and the Fortune 500. Check out our draft docs page for more. The Facebook / Libra / Diem team independently came to the concept of Resources, and so Move is the only other programming language so far that is resource oriented (read more here).
About this role You’ll work directly with the team defining the Cadence smart contract programming language, and contribute directly to the dapps that will bring blockchain into the mainstream. The projects in our pipeline range from the low-level “service contracts” that manage Flow’s proof-of-stake bonding mechanisms, all the way up to defi “building blocks” like DEXs and consumer-facing software like NBA Top Shot and CryptoKitties 2.0. You must have an open mind, a collaborative spirit, and a willingness to question the status quo whenever it gets in the way of a better world.
All of us at Dapper Labs share a common vision: to create the future we want to live in. We need more people like you to help us realize that vision.
A little about you: Appreciate the power and limitations of immutable smart contract code. Believe that the readability of code is a critical part of the blockchain user experience. Contribute and enforce best practices throughout the development process. Comfortable trying out new tools, failing fast, and handling “unknown unknowns”. Adamant about automated testing, with expansive coverage. Energized by the challenge and opportunity of working with new languages and programming paradigms.
Bonus points if you have the following: Developed a widely-used smart contract. A working understanding of one or more of Solidity, Rust, Move, or Cadence. Significant contributions or leadership of an open source project. Dapper team members are humble and curious entrepreneurs, builders, and tinkerers who share a passion to demystify blockchain technology and tap its potential to create change in the world. Our people are our greatest strength: our diverse crew flourishes in a distributed hierarchy where personal autonomy and professional growth are encouraged. We value our culture above else: regardless of where you came from, what you studied, or who you used to work for, your role here will necessitate both a high level of creativity and strategic thinking on complex issues. Everyone here is a founder, and no one fits in a box. We’re all driven by an insatiable thirst for learning and development, and that’s what brings us together.

How do I get a job at DeFi?
Getting a job in the DeFi (decentralized finance) industry can be a competitive process, but there are a few steps you can take to increase your chances of finding a job in this field:
- Build up your skills and knowledge: To work in DeFi, you'll likely need to have a strong understanding of blockchain technology, as well as other related technologies such as smart contracts and cryptocurrency. Consider taking online courses or earning a degree in a relevant field to build up your skills and knowledge.
- Network with industry professionals: Attend meetups and conferences related to DeFi and make connections with professionals in the industry. Networking can be a valuable way to learn about job openings and get your foot in the door at a DeFi company.
- Create a strong online presence: Many DeFi companies will look at your online presence (such as your LinkedIn profile and personal website) when considering you for a job. Make sure to showcase your skills and accomplishments online and keep your profile up to date.
- Apply for relevant job openings: Keep an eye out for job openings at DeFi companies and apply for positions that align with your skills and experience. Apply for DeFi Jobs without Experience. Tailor your resume and cover letter to the specific job you're applying for and highlight any relevant experience or skills you have.
- Consider internships or volunteer work: DeFi Internships or volunteer work can be a great way to get your foot in the door and gain valuable experience in the DeFi industry. Many companies also offer internships to students, so consider applying for an internship if you're still in school.
- Be persistent: keep trying if you don't get a job right away. It can take time to find the right opportunity, but with the right skills and determination, you can land a job in the DeFi industry.
