Fullstack Engineer, Crypto
Dept is growing fast and we're looking for a fullstack developer interested in the potential that blockchains offer. Our philosophy is to hire smart, client facing engineers that can both understand our client’s business goals and write elegant code.
About Us:
Dept is a small but growing, tight-knit group of experienced engineers and designers that love building products with like-minded folks. Some of the things that we believe in:
- Being a maker is a creative job, and often requires discovering problems before they can be solved properly
- To be the best at your trade, you need to focus, so makers at Dept only work on one project at a time: no context switching, which can kill productivity
- Great communication is the key to any project, especially in a world with so much remote collaboration
- A healthy work/life balance is important, and you shouldn’t have to work nights or weekends to hit unrealistic deadlines
- Always learning is paramount; we're constantly learning/evolving through guild meetings, lunch & learns, conferences and practice
We focus on building great products with clients that we enjoy and respect. Our work has improved people's lives, been seen by millions of users, featured in app stores, had books written about it, featured in the press, received awards and, most importantly, brought delight to users.
We are growing fast and looking for individuals that are passionate about the development process and not timid about working directly with clients.
What will your day be like?
- You’ll help build complex apps that are making a material impact on the world and will be seen by millions of users, specifically, cutting edge apps and tools in the crypto space
- Learn and experiment with proof-of-stake blockchains, smart contracts, developer tools and DeFi applications
- Help teach us more about how best to solve problems in a decentralized world, and attract new blockchain-based projects thanks to our expertise
- Both learn new things from other Dept eers as well as improve how we do things
About You:
You have:
- 5+ years of real world software development experience on teams (framework/language doesn't matter)
- Used Typescript on a real project
- Deep knowledge of at least one modern javascript framework (e.g. Angular, React, Vue, Svelte, etc.)
- The ability to deploy your software and configure DNS records
- Passion for learning about developing in the crypto space and experimenting with new technologies related to it
- An understanding of relational data modeling and non-relational data modeling alike and when to use one or the other
- A natural ability to solve problems and willingness to take initiative
- A desire to work directly with clients, mentor junior developers and are good distilling technical information for a variety of roles
You might have these qualifications, but they aren't required:
- Experience developing smart contracts with Solidity (or similar if writing smart contracts not meant for the EVM)
- Experience with Python
- Experience with DevOps technologies for cloud services such as Docker and Terraform
What does a full stack developer in web3 do?
A full stack web3 developer is a developer who has expertise in the full stack of technologies that are used to build web3 applications
These applications use the decentralized, distributed nature of the web3 network to provide users with a secure and decentralized way of accessing and interacting with online services and applications. The responsibilities of a full stack web3 developer will vary depending on the specific project and the needs of the team they are working with
In general, though, a full stack web3 developer will be responsible for: designing and building the front-end and back-end of web3 applications, as well as implementing and maintaining the underlying blockchain infrastructure
This will often involve working with a variety of different technologies and programming languages, such as Solidity for smart contract development, JavaScript and HTML for front-end development, and various blockchain protocols and frameworks. Additionally, a full stack web3 developer may also be responsible for working with the web3 community to help drive adoption and integration of web3 technologies, as well as staying up-to-date on the latest developments in the field and contributing to the broader web3 ecosystem.
