As a Director, Design at The Block, you will be responsible for building and leading a team of world class designers charged with crafting highly engaging and accessible user experiences across The Blockâs core products. You will build the team, the design process, and help drive product development. The Director will shape and evangelize the user research and testing functions.Â
You will report to the VP, Product, who will work with you in setting up the initial vision, strategy, direction, and design requirements. You will manage the design team and be seen as the leader of design and brand within the company. You will partner closely with leaders from design, product, sales, editorial, and engineering to build high-quality experiences across several product lines. This role will serve at the heart of The Blockâs product development process. Â
The hiring range for this role is $150,000 - $180,000 in base salary, plus equity and benefits. Base salary pay within the provided range will be refined based on candidateâs experience and location.
You will:
- Partner closely with leaders from product and engineering to build high-quality experiences at scale across several product linesÂ
- Collaborate with Sales and Account Management to create frictionless experiences for our paying membersÂ
- Develop and organization structure, hire and attract talent to the team, mentor team members.Â
- Build and implement design processes across the company to enact efficiencies in product designÂ
- Lead and evangelize user research and testingÂ
- Be obsessed with the competitive landscape and strive to identify gaps between our products and theirs.Â
- Push forward the company's branding across all product linesÂ
- Create a design system across the brands product linesÂ
- Lead creative direction for both internal and external products.Â
- Collaborate with Engineering team to maintain the fidelity of designs in production final codeÂ
- Contribute to the culture of quality, healthy collaboration and leading by exampleÂ
Qualifications:
- Experience using wireframing tools such (Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch or similar)Â
- Ability to carry out work from concept to productionÂ
- Management and mentoring experienceÂ
- Expertisewith user interface designÂ
- Expertise in design systemsÂ
- Familiarity with code that brings digital designs to life (HTML, CSS, Javascript)Â
- Experience in working collaborativelyÂ
- Experience in branding exercisesÂ
- Receptive to feedback and critiquesÂ
The following are not required, but are nice to have:
- A strong portfolio of previous Product Design work explaining your contributionsÂ
- Strong background or education in Product DesignÂ
- Experience working with front-end coding technologies (HTML, CSS, Javascript)Â
- Experience working with component-based librariesÂ
- Experience in product strategy and product thinkingÂ
- Interest in digital assets, crypto, and blockchain technologiesÂ
