We're making the world of digital assets accessible and secure for everyone. Join the mission.

Founded in 2014, Ledger is the global platform for digital assets and Web3. Over 15% of the world’s crypto assets are secured through our Ledger Nanos. Headquartered in Paris and Vierzon, with offices in the UK, US, Switzerland and Singapore, Ledger has a team of more than 700 professionals developing a variety of products and services to enable individuals and companies to securely buy, store, swap, grow and manage crypto assets – including the Ledger hardware wallets line with more than 5 millions units already sold in 180 countries.

At Ledger, we embody the values that make us unique: Pragmatism, Audacity, Commitment, Trust, and Transparency. Have a look at our Origins video here.

We are looking for a backend developer. You will be responsible for developing and scaling backend applications to allow millions of people to securely benefit from Web3 and process their transactions in the cryptocurrency world.

The team is composed of passionate Engineers who believe in the benefits and strength of functional programming to develop robust and scalable platforms and APIs. Customer-focused, they are also eager to understand and implement product and business requirements.

We are convinced that being an engineer is also taking time to challenge, discuss and share what we are working on. A dynamic roll over each service allows every team member to get involved in many projects over time. We take time to have each week a dedicated knowledge-sharing meeting and participate actively in the Scala community (Meetups, Conferences, etc…).

Your mission

    • Build highly available, consistent, and performant services to power Ledger’s products
    • Provide services to explore the contents of blockchain and provide wallet-like features to support many cryptos (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Tezos, Stellar …)
    • Leverage all the power of functional programming with Node.js and/or Scala and the Typelevel stack
    • Conduct benchmarks to identify bottlenecks and optimize the overall performance of our services
    • Deliver a high-quality piece of software (Test it, Document it, Demonstrate it)
    • Design monitoring systems to detect unexpected failures/behavior
    • Use CI / CD to deploy and secure workflows

What we’re looking for

    • 3-5 years of experience in backend robust development
    • Scala, Haskell, or functional programming experience is nice to have Node.js and Java developers who are willing to dive into Scala technologies are welcome

    • Knowledge of Containerization and Cloud deployments
    • Having an interest in cryptocurrencies and wishing to work with blockchain technology is a real plus
    • Enthusiastic about teamwork, learning, and teaching (meet-ups, hackathons, training…)

Process

    • 1h - Team Fit, you'll meet the Engineering team for a discussion
    • 2h - Coding & Design in Live with the Engineering team
    • 45 min - Final interview with the VP of Engineering of the Business unit you'll join

What does a Java developer in web3 do?

A Java developer in web3 would likely be focused on developing applications that use the Java programming language in the context of the web3 technology stack

Web3 is a collective term used to refer to the next generation of decentralized, blockchain-based technologies that are aimed at creating a more open and secure internet

In this context, a Java developer would be responsible for writing code that interacts with web3 technologies, such as decentralized applications (DApps) and smart contracts, to create new tools and services that run on the blockchain

This could involve working with cutting-edge technologies such as Ethereum, which is a popular blockchain platform that uses the Java programming language, as well as other web3 technologies and frameworks.
