Carpool is looking for a core backend engineer to join its growing team. Our product spans a wide range of database, cloud infrastructure, and Web3 technologies, and a core engineer will be working with all of them. This is a leadership position - you will be owning major components of our technology stack and will be leading future engineers as the company grows. About Carpool Carpool is a data-infrastructure-as-a-service company for Web3 developers. We are currently live on the Solana blockchain, but will expand to other chains in the future. While our customers are Web3 developers, our technology leans heavily on high-scale Web2 data infrastructure. Our CEO is also the Principal Engineer, with years of experience at major companies and startups such as Google and Uber. Our mission is to lower the barrier to building great products using Web3 technology by automating one of the most complex aspects of development in the space - data management. While blockchains provide a publicly accessible ledger of application data, they are not well suited to the complex queries that power applications, monitoring, and analytics. Ironically, it takes significantly more effort to work with public blockchain data than managing your own schemas and databases in a traditional Web2 application. Carpool solves this problem through an automated platform which collects, parses, and stores application data from blockchains. About the Role You will be working directly with the CEO as a technical peer. In addition to developing various backend systems, you will be responsible for researching technologies, designing features, and architecting solutions end to end. Expect to wear many hats: architect, backend developer, devops, and more. As the company expands, you will also be responsible for growing and managing the team. About You
5+ years of professional backend software development experience (roughly the equivalent of a FAANG L5). Production experience with high-scale data infrastructure technologies (e.g. SQL & NoSQL databases, data warehouses, Kafka, etc.). Production experience with developer infrastructure (K8s) and CI/CD systems (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GCP Cloud Build, etc.) Self directed - you should be able to independently find product areas and features worth developing, research relevant technologies, architect a solution, spec it out and defend it in a design doc, and implement it.
Our Technologies Direct experience with these specific technologies is not mandatory, but you should be familiar with these types of systems.
Infrastructure
GCP Kubernetes (Spinnaker, Istio, etc.) Kafka/GCP PubSub
Programming Languages
Rust Java Typescript (NestJS)
Databases/Datastores
Postgres TimescaleDB Elasticsearch Redis BigTable BigQuery GCS/S3 Apache Beam/GCP Dataflow
DevOps
Terraform GCP Cloud Build GCP Artifact Registry GitHub
Compensation We are still an early team, so your compensation will be more equity based. However, you can expect raises to market-rate salary as we continue to grow and fundraise, and a significant equity package befitting a founding engineer.carpool.dev is an equal opportunity employer.
