We’re looking for a Director of Underwriting (Crypto/Defi) to support our next phase of growth. You’ll join our Underwriting and Portfolio Risk team, collaborating with trading, sales and treasury teams.

Your Mission:

• Perform quantitative and qualitative risk analysis of crypto and defi lending strategies and investment opportunities
• Develop the credit memos and investment packets for presentation to the credit and investment committee which summarizes the risk/reward analysis and recommendations
• Contribute to formulating hedging strategies and risk management procedures based on the credit and investment analysis results
• Help to define the crypto/defi market access framework, including portfolio targets and allocation limits
• Work continuously on the improvement of the analytical framework, processes and techniques used for the credit and investment risk analysis
• Partner across the firm with operational risk, legal, compliance, security and vendor teams when analyzing new credit and investment opportunities into crypto/defi ecosystem
• Design analytical and/or procedural improvements to risk monitoring and reporting
• Support the risk infrastructure buildout of the portfolio and investment risk measurement, monitoring and reporting dashboards

Your Expertise

• University degree in finance or a relevant quantitative field such as mathematics, computer science, or engineering. Masters/MBAs/Certifications such as CFA, CPA, CAIA are a plus.
• Knowledge and/or experience investing in crypto assets, particularly in DeFi
• 10 years+ risk management experience as either a front-office or second-line market risk manager
• High level of proficiency in productivity tools used in financial analysis (strong working knowledge of Excel, understanding of/experience in relational databases, python, SQL etc.)
• Understanding of wide variety of financial products including structured products and derivatives
• High degree of familiarity professionally or personally with cryptocurrency, blockchain, and ability to move between TradFi, CeFi, and DeFi concepts seamlessly;
• Working knowledge of the main Defi/Cefi venues, smart-contracts and blockchain scripting languages (e.g., Solidity)
• Analytical mindset: ability to think logically, view the market in terms of possible risk/reward
• Methodical and logical approach to given assignments, ability to plan and prioritize tasks, deliver on schedule while maintaining steady communication & work-related feedback to team members and supervisors.
• Financial Engineering background a plus
• Enthusiasm about BlockFi’s products and business model
