Sony Music Entertainment (SME) is now looking for a highly capable Paralegal to support the Content Protection team. This position will play a vital role in SME’s efforts to combat intellectual property theft and provide a unique opportunity to work on substantive intellectual property and content protection related matters. Our ideal candidate will have experience in Intellectual Property (IP) enforcement and an interest in working at the intersection of music, emerging technologies, and copyright law.

What you'll do:

• Provide support to in-house attorneys and Content Protection team to protect SME’s intellectual property rights – with a specific focus on copyrights
• Prepare and administer Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) notices and/or cease and desist letters
• Draft correspondence and other written materials for review by in-house attorneys, including editing and reviewing documentation for accuracy and completeness
• Respond to requests from SME labels, affiliates, and artist camps to address unauthorized uses of SME copyrights, trademarks, and/or other rights violations
• Work with trade organizations (e.g., RIAA, IFPI), vendors, and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) teams to support SME’s content protection initiatives
• Gather market research and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that measure the efficacy of departmental programs

Who you are:

• Must possess B.S. or B.A. from an accredited institution
• Minimum of 1-2 years direct or equivalent experience working in Copyright Enforcement, Brand Protection, Fraud Prevention or related fields
• Background in software engineering or programming is preferred
• Knowledgeable about emerging technologies such as blockchain, NFTs, VR experiences, the metaverse, etc.
• Strong desire to work with emerging technologies
• Must be reachable off-hours and weekends to address urgent business needs
