AI Health Chains is also hiring a Senior Blockchain Engineer to expand and refine the core blockchain layer of our platform. As a senior blockchain expert, you will maintain and enhance our permissioned blockchain infrastructure (currently built on technologies like Hyperledger Fabric or a private Ethereum network) that secures health records and AI outputs. The backend data pipelines and initial ledger are in place; your mission will be to develop smart contracts, improve scalability, and ensure that our blockchain ecosystem remains secure, robust, and compliant as we scale. This role is critical – you’ll be architecting the foundation that guarantees trust and transparency in every data transaction. You will work closely with our CEO, Max Doppelt, who is steering our AI and blockchain strategy and infrastructure growth, as well as with AI engineers and compliance experts. If you are excited about applying blockchain to solve real-world problems in healthcare and have the expertise to build enterprise-grade distributed systems, we'd love to have you on the team.

Key Resp onsibilities
- Blockchain Infrastructure Development: Maintain and extend our permissioned blockchain network that underpins the platform’s security. Our current implementation uses consortium blockchain technology (e.g. Hyperledger Fabric or a private Ethereum-based chain) to ensure scalability and privacy. You will be responsible for node configuration, network governance policies, and integrating new partners/nodes as the network grows.
- Smart Contract Engineering: Design, develop, and audit smart contracts that power critical workflows such as patient consent management, data access control, and verification of AI inference results on-chain. For example, you might implement a smart contract to automatically enforce that a clinician has patient consent before viewing records, or to log an AI diagnostic result with a timestamp and hash for auditability. Your code will be expected to meet high standards of security and correctness (saving patient lives leaves no room for bugs!).
- Advanced Cryptography Implementation: Implement and leverage advanced cryptographic techniques to enhance privacy and trust. This includes methods like zero-knowledge proofs (to verify computations or permissions without revealing underlying data) and cryptographic hash chains/Merkle trees for tamper-evident record keeping. Your work will help us prove data integrity and compliance to outside parties without exposing sensitive information.
- Data Integrity & Security: Ensure the traceability and immutability of health data records. Every interaction – whether adding a new medical record, editing an entry, or an AI model recording a prediction – must be immutably logged on the blockchain. You will design mechanisms to guarantee that these logs are tamper-proof and easily auditable, providing a reliable history of all data changes and accesses.
- Performance & Scalability: Monitor and optimize the blockchain network’s performance. You will handle tasks like improving transaction throughput, reducing latency of consensus, managing chain size growth, and ensuring high availability of nodes. This may involve tuning consensus parameters, implementing node scaling strategies, or exploring layer-2 solutions if needed, all while maintaining security and decentralization.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with the AI, frontend, and compliance teams to ensure end-to-end security and compliance. For instance, you’ll collaborate with AI engineers to log model outputs on-chain for auditability, and with compliance officers to implement features meeting regulatory requirements. You’ll help educate and guide the broader engineering team on blockchain best practices, and coordinate integration between the blockchain layer and application layer for seamless user experiences.
- Senior Blockchain Expertise: Extensive experience (5+ years recommended) in blockchain or distributed systems engineering. You have designed or maintained blockchain networks or decentralized applications in a production environment. Experience with permissioned blockchain frameworks (Hyperledger Fabric, Quorum, Corda, or private Ethereum variants) is highly desirable, as is familiarity with public blockchains and their architectures.
- Smart Contract Development: Hands-on experience writing and deploying smart contracts (Solidity, Vyper, Chaincode for Hyperledger, or similar). You understand common smart contract patterns and pitfalls (re-entrancy, overflow, etc.) and have a strong ability to ensure contract security through testing and audits. Any experience with healthcare data or consent management smart contracts would be a bonus.
- Cryptography & Security Skills: Strong foundation in cryptographic principles and cybersecurity. You should understand hashing, digital signatures, key management, and consensus algorithms. Experience with or knowledge of zero-knowledge proofs, encryption schemes, and data privacy techniques is a big plus, as our platform heavily emphasizes data security and privacy.
- Proficiency in Programming: Solid programming skills in languages relevant to blockchain development. While much of our application stack is JavaScript/TypeScript (and we expect proficiency there), you should also be comfortable with languages like Go, Rust, or Python used in blockchain contexts. Familiarity with developing secure APIs or middleware that interface with the blockchain will be useful.
- Systems Thinking: Ability to design systems for scalability, reliability, and maintainability. You have experience diagnosing and optimizing performance in distributed systems (network bottlenecks, memory usage, etc.). Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) in context of blockchain nodes is beneficial.
- Domain & Compliance Knowledge: Interest or experience in healthcare IT or regulated data environments is appreciated. Understanding of compliance standards (HIPAA, GDPR) and how they relate to data storage and transfer security will help in aligning the blockchain implementation with industry requirements.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Proven ability to work in a collaborative team and mentor junior engineers. You communicate clearly and can convey complex blockchain concepts to non-blockchain team members. As a senior engineer in a startup, you are proactive, can take ownership of projects, and drive them to completion.
- Background Check (U.S. only): U.S.-based candidates must be able to pass a background check and drug test. An active Public Trust clearance (or eligibility to obtain one) is required, as our work may involve partnerships with government or handling of sensitive public health information.
- Visionary Mission: Be part of a mission to revolutionize healthcare. Your work will directly contribute to a platform that could save lives and set new standards for health data security. This is not just another fintech or DeFi project – it's a chance to apply blockchain for social good, ensuring that medical data is both powerful and protected.
- Global Remote Team: Work from anywhere and join a diverse, global team. AI Health Chains is remote-first, and we celebrate the inclusion of perspectives from around the world. You’ll have flexibility in your work schedule and the support of a highly skilled team that values results over hours logged.
- Competitive & Flexible Compensation: Enjoy a competitive salary with flexible compensation options. In addition to a base salary, senior hires receive equity ownership in the company and can opt to be paid in fiat or cryptocurrency. We believe in aligning incentives with our team – as the company grows, so does your stake. We also provide standard benefits and allowances customized to your region.
- Pioneering Technology & Growth: Work on the cutting edge of Web3 and AI. You’ll gain experience with permissioned blockchain networks, smart contracts in healthcare, privacy-preserving AI integrations, and advanced cryptography. We encourage continuous learning – whether that means attending industry conferences, taking courses, or contributing to open source, we’ll support your growth.
- Influence and Leadership: As a senior member of a fast-growing startup, you will have significant influence over technical decisions and the product roadmap. You’ll collaborate directly with industry leaders like CEO Max Doppelt (a veteran in AU and blockchain investment and strategy) and a host of experienced AI scientists and clinicians. This close-knit, multidisciplinary environment offers mentorship and the chance to lead initiatives that push the boundaries of what’s possible in healthcare tech.
