Notice: This role is for a remote software engineering position based in Singapore with the opportunity to move to our on-site San Francisco office in Q4 2025.

About Solayer Labs

Solayer is building a vertically integrated financial stack for the open internet.

Powered by InfiniSVM, our hardware-accelerated blockchain engine, Solayer delivers unmatched performance, up to 1,000,000 transactions per second (TPS) while providing a seamless on-chain to real-world experience through native assets, DeFi tools, and our Solayer suite of products.

Find out more about us and our products at https://docs.solayer.org.

The Role

We are looking for a highly motivated and self-driven engineer to contribute to one or more of the following areas: Database, Networking, or Storage. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role where you’ll be expected to dive into the challenges and contribute immediately.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of designing, analyzing, and implementing core mechanisms that drive Solayer’s core products. You’ll contribute to critical infrastructure helping to ensure our platform remains at the cutting edge of decentralized technology.

What We’re Looking For

Solayer is a challenging, fast-paced environment where you’ll grow exponentially and a chance to work on meaningful projects that push the boundaries of engineering.

New graduates are welcome to apply. If your background is primarily in Web2 technologies, but you’re eager to take on new challenges, we encourage you to apply.

  • Bias towards Action: You must be proactive in identifying solutions and communicating to drive outcomes for your responsibilities.
  • Passion for Learning: You thrive in environments where self-initiative and a desire to push boundaries are key.
  • Self-Motivated: This is not a role where you’ll be trained—no formal training will be provided. You must have the passion and curiosity to pick up the context and skills required on your own.

What You Will Do

  • Core Development: Design, implement, and maintain backend features that support Solayer’s infrastructure, focusing on low-level programming for optimal performance.
  • Rust Programming: Write, test, and deploy robust code in Rust, ensuring high performance and reliability of Solayer’s backend infrastructure.
  • Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve bottlenecks to maximize platform efficiency, prioritizing low-latency transaction processing.
  • Mechanism Design: Develop and analyze mechanisms across various domains, such as transaction ordering, (re)staking economics, spam prevention, etc.
  • Research & Documentation: Keep up-to-date with advancements in blockchain mechanism design and synthesize insights into best practices. Document findings for both internal and external stakeholders.

Nice to Haves

  • Deep understanding of Solana native features, such as SPL and transaction processing.
  • Experience with other low-level programming languages.
  • Familiarity with blockchain security best practices and experience with secure coding practices.
  • Strong engineering and architectural understanding of blockchain economic design.
  • Expertise in:
  • Transaction Ordering and MEV: Understanding of Miner/Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) dynamics.
  • Staking and Economic Security: Familiarity with delegation economics, slashing conditions, and stake pool design.
  • Consensus Mechanisms: Proficiency in pBFT, Tendermint, Gasper, PoH, and other consensus algorithms.
  • Spam Prevention: Knowledge of light clients, Merkle proofs, and security guarantees across L1s and rollups.

What We Offer

  • Work remotely or from our San Francisco office.
  • Competitive salary, ranging from US$80k to US$150k, based on experience and skills.
  • Ownership in the company.
  • Flexible work schedule to support work-life balance.
  • Bi-yearly team offsites for networking, collaboration, and team-building.

Solayer Labs is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, creed, gender, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sex, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation or any other basis protected by applicable law.

How do I get a job at DeFi?

Getting a job in the DeFi (decentralized finance) industry can be a competitive process, but there are a few steps you can take to increase your chances of finding a job in this field:

  1. Build up your skills and knowledge: To work in DeFi, you'll likely need to have a strong understanding of blockchain technology, as well as other related technologies such as smart contracts and cryptocurrency. Consider taking online courses or earning a degree in a relevant field to build up your skills and knowledge.
  2. Network with industry professionals: Attend meetups and conferences related to DeFi and make connections with professionals in the industry. Networking can be a valuable way to learn about job openings and get your foot in the door at a DeFi company.
  3. Create a strong online presence: Many DeFi companies will look at your online presence (such as your LinkedIn profile and personal website) when considering you for a job. Make sure to showcase your skills and accomplishments online and keep your profile up to date.
  4. Apply for relevant job openings: Keep an eye out for job openings at DeFi companies and apply for positions that align with your skills and experience. Apply for DeFi Jobs without Experience. Tailor your resume and cover letter to the specific job you're applying for and highlight any relevant experience or skills you have.
  5. Consider internships or volunteer work: DeFi Internships or volunteer work can be a great way to get your foot in the door and gain valuable experience in the DeFi industry. Many companies also offer internships to students, so consider applying for an internship if you're still in school.
  6. Be persistent: keep trying if you don't get a job right away. It can take time to find the right opportunity, but with the right skills and determination, you can land a job in the DeFi industry.
