The Role.

Our Lead QA Engineer role involves upholding the Wise QA strategy and being the go-to technical expert for all things QA-related in terms of manual, automated, and API suites of tests on our web, mobile, DB, and messaging platforms. These platforms form the core IP of the company, so this leading role offers great exposure and responsibility to the right candidate who is excited to join a team of talented QA engineers and developers in a pioneering software development setting where you’ll see your career reach elevated heights. It goes without saying that mentoring more junior colleagues and close collaboration with peers will be required. Therefore, as a Lead QA Engineer, you will be comfortable pairing with junior and senior members of the Wise QA and developer teams. You will have a chance to showcase your existing JavaScript automation skills and contribute to forward momentum on the WebdriverIO and Appium frameworks we are building out. As the go-to advocate of QA at Wise, you will also be required to perform software shows and demos to all levels of the business.


Remote working options for Tuesdays & Wednesdays with office attendance when beneficial for planning sessions and workshops.

  • ISTQB/ISEB qualified with substantial practical experience in a Senior or Lead QA engineering role

  • Experience with JavaScript and able to work through JavaScript in the QA framework with the development team when required

  • Experience with automated testing tools like WebdriverIO, Selenium Webdriver, Appium, etc and the ability to provide examples of the pros and cons of the market-leading automated testing solutions

  • Solid experience with JavaScript npm package manager and dependency downloads for framework inclusion

  • Solid experience running automated suites of WebdriverIO & Appium tests on BrowserStack or Saucelabs

  • Able to quickly provide proof-of-concept skeleton automation test frameworks in new tools

  • Solid hands-on API testing skills with tools such Postman, Jest or ReadyAPI

  • Solid understanding of QA FT & NFT environment best practices and data fabrication/anonymisation requirements

  • Practical knowledge of GIT

  • Confident and empathetic approach when mentoring more junior QA engineers or working closely with developers

  • Ability to map manual and automated tests against requirements to report on requirements traceability

  • Confidence in one’s own abilities to highlight risks or requirement gaps to relevant parties

  • Ability to present examples of expert testing against cloud architectures and SAAS solutions

  • Experience with integration testing web & mobile applications in conjunction with third party systems

  • Experience in reviewing and writing clear, concise, and comprehensive test plans and test cases in an iterative SDLC

  • Understanding of PCI compliance and awareness of ISO standards

  • Experience of Waterfall and Agile methodologies

  • Good knowledge of database interaction from a QA perspective and test data preparation

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and contribution of continuous QA effort

  • Experience with non-functional testing is a plus (advantageous)

  • Experience with security testing is a plus (advantageous)

  • Experience with accountancy &/or financial products/applications (advantageous)
