Web3 has created a new era of decentralized finance, democratizing financial access. However, it has fallen short in generating mass consumer applications and remains largely centered around finance. We believe blockchain technology is a cornerstone for the future of new, open Internet applications.

Today, there are limits to what you can build on-chain. Many factors constrain this, from the cost of running applications to the fundamental performance limitations of existing blockchains. We believe that new technologies can unlock a new class of real-time applications that normally must be built on Web2 foundations. Enabling these systems to be built on-chain will allow the free movement of businesses and users between online platforms, creating what we call a true virtual society.

We are building Somnia, a fast and cost-effective EVM-based blockchain, to achieve this. Somnia is a layer-one blockchain with full EVM compatibility, capable of processing over 400,000 transactions per second with sub-second latency and low fees. This will unlock a new wave of on-chain applications. Initially, we are focusing on gaming, metaverse, and social experiences. But we are not even 100% certain of what can be built with the technology we are creating.

Somnia is being developed by Virtual Society Foundation, an independent organisation initiated by Improbable, a British start-up that has been at the forefront of building virtual worlds for over a decade. VSF received initial funding from MSquared, which raised $150 million in funding from a16z crypto, SoftBank, Mirana Ventures, CMT Digital, and SIG.

Your Mission 

As Head of Content for Somnia—one of the Foundation’s flagship initiatives—you will drive the overarching content vision and strategy, positioning Somnia at the forefront of discourse in the Metaverse and Web3 space. You will oversee a team composed of content leads, social media managers, and work closely with a PR agency to create compelling, consistent, and brand-aligned messaging across all channels. Your role will include orchestrating a variety of content campaigns, establishing relationships with media and podcast outlets, and ensuring that Somnia’s narrative resonates with diverse audiences worldwide.

Responsibilities: 

  1. Strategic Content Leadership

    • Define and execute a comprehensive content strategy to elevate Somnia’s brand and mission across global markets.

    • Develop editorial guidelines and content roadmaps to maintain consistency, quality, and authenticity across all mediums (websitewebsit, blog, social media, podcasts, PR, etc.).

    • Align content initiatives with overarching marketing and growth objectives, ensuring cohesive messaging and positioning.

  2. Team Management & Collaboration

    • Manage and mentor the content team, including content leads and social media managers, fostering a culture of creativity, accountability, and professional growth.

    • Coordinate closely with the PR agency to align on brand messaging, media outreach, and reputation management strategies.

    • Partner with cross-functional teams and vendors —such as Growth, Community, Web development and Partnerships—to ensure integrated campaign strategies and timely content delivery.

  3. Media & Podcast Outreach

    • Identify and cultivate relationships with influential media channels, podcast hosts, and thought leaders within the Web3, blockchain, and metaverse ecosystem.

    • Plan, negotiate, and oversee podcast appearances, guest interviews, and media partnerships to expand Somnia’s presence and thought leadership.

    • Collaborate with the PR agency to secure coverage, manage press releases, and respond to media inquiries effectively.

  4. Content Campaign Planning & Execution

    • Design and launch multi-channel content campaigns that spotlight Somnia’s unique value proposition, product updates, and community initiatives.

    • Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of content projects—from ideation and production to distribution and analysis.

    • Track, measure, and report on campaign performance, leveraging insights to iterate and refine future strategies.

  5. Thought Leadership & Innovation

    • Stay abreast of emerging trends and innovations in the Web3, NFT, gaming, and broader tech landscapes, ensuring Somnia maintains a forward-thinking voice.

    • Encourage experimentation with new content formats, platforms, and storytelling methods to keep Somnia’s content dynamic and influential.

    • Build relationships with industry thought leaders and facilitate knowledge-sharing opportunities, such as roundtables, webinars, and cross-promotions.

  6. Brand & Community Engagement

    • Ensure all content aligns with brand standards and resonates with Somnia’s community, fostering trust and engagement at every touchpoint.

    • Collaborate with the Community team to tailor content specifically for local markets, audience preferences, and cultural nuances.

    • Maintain an agile approach to content development, responding swiftly to community feedback, industry news, and product updates.

Qualifications:

  • Experience & Skills

    • 5+ years of experience in content strategy, editorial leadership, or related roles, preferably in the Web3, blockchain, or technology sector.

    • Must have experience working for a blockchain project. 

    • Proven track record of managing content teams, social media managers, and overseeing third-party agencies (e.g., PR).

    • Strong background in crafting and supervising content across various formats: Technical Product, long-form articles, social posts, audio/video, and live events.

    • Demonstrated success in forging media relationships, podcast bookings, and executing high-impact content campaigns.

  • Leadership & Communication

    • Excellent managerial and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and guide diverse teams across multiple geographies and time zones.

    • Superior storytelling and writing abilities, enabling you to shape a compelling narrative that resonates with both technical and non-technical audiences.

    • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Industry Knowledge

    • Deep understanding of the Web3 ecosystem, including blockchain projects, Metaverse platforms, NFTs, and decentralised applications.

    • Up-to-date awareness of emerging industry trends, market developments, and audience behaviours within the crypto/blockchain space.
