Specular is a system designed to scale Ethereum securely, with minimal additional trust assumptions. It is the first EVM-native optimistic rollup, relying on existing Ethereum infrastructure to enable native compatibility for Ethereum applications and tooling. Specular’s underlying protocol is designed with resilience in mind, minimizing trust in any one component, and maximizing the ability to participate permissionlessly. In particular, Specular achieves:
a minimal trusted computing base, improving security, auditability and upgradeability;
support for permissionless, trust-minimized participation of any Ethereum client, enabling client diversity; and
efficient dispute resolution.
You can find more information in our full manuscript, and our blog post.
We are looking for motivated, creative, and team-oriented individuals with experience in blockchain technology to join our growing team as a Software Engineer. At Specular, you will have the ability to work on a remote team, share new ideas, and collaborate on projects in the Ethereum rollup/layer-2 scalability solutions space.
Responsibilities
Lead core engineering work and contribute to architecture across Specular’s technical stack, including smart contracts, operational nodes, developer tooling and various web2 front-ends.
Collaborate with founders, engineers and technical advisors on major product & engineering decisions as we develop key features throughout the testnet deployment and work towards mainnet launch
Mentor and develop the engineering team, elevating our collective technical expertise and problem-solving capabilities.
Minimum Requirements
5+ years of professional engineering experience, with experience owning multiple months-long projects and communicating progress, risks & dependencies with stakeholders
Strong proficiency with with Rust
Deep understanding of public blockchain infrastructure (e.g. clients, such as Geth)
Comfort setting direction with ambiguous and unknown requirements
Preferred Requirements
Prior experience building systems with off-chain and on-chain components, such as rollups.
Experience with smart contract development in Solidity and/or Go development
Experience working on distributed systems, security and/or cryptography.
Prior startup experience.
Familiarity with web3 tooling such as Foundry/Forge and Hardhat.
What does a solidity developer do?
A Solidity developer is a programmer who specializes in writing smart contracts using the Solidity programming language
Solidity is a contract-oriented, high-level language for implementing smart contracts on various blockchain platforms, such as Ethereum
The responsibilities of a Solidity developer can vary depending on the specific project they are working on, but some common tasks they might be responsible for include:
- Writing and testing Solidity code for smart contracts, Debugging and troubleshooting issues with existing smart contracts
- Collaborating with other members of the development team to ensure that the contracts are implemented according to the project's specifications
- Keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in the Solidity and blockchain communities, and incorporating new best practices and techniques into their work
- Participating in code reviews and contributing to the development of coding standards and guidelines for the project.
