Head of Compliance

Because we got compliance for days! The Head of Compliance is the operating officer who is responsible for the development and oversight of Shakepay’s compliance system especially as it relates to anti-money laundering and securities requirements. You’ll have the unique opportunity to establish a compliance framework in a novel regulatory environment or be like Homer Simpson, just keep pressing any key and cause a nuclear meltdown. Just kidding!!

You will:

• Maintain policies and procedures for both Shakepay’s AML and securities compliance programs
• Manage Shakepay’s compliance monitoring and reporting controls related to both AML and securities (especially NI 31-103) requirements and produce metrics on relevant regulatory risks
• Manage Shakepay’s compliance with respect to operating a Money Services Business (including anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism finance regulations and other rules and procedures adopted by FINTRAC)
• Take supervisory or other actions, in concert with the other officers of Shakepay, to resolve compliance issues
• Use your wishbone to wish for more compliance rules
• Manage regulatory relationships and examinations/assessments with external stakeholders including FINTRAC, AMF, OSC, Bank of Canada and others
• Work on compliance initiatives as well as research, recommend and participate in the implementation of technology solutions to help enhance Shakepay’s compliance programs and processes
• Train and supervise other employees on compliance
• Cheer for the referees at sporting events

Must have:

• 5+ years of compliance experience, ideally in a registered firm (IIROC dealer, exempt market dealer, portfolio manager, investment fund manager) or Crypto asset Trading Platform
• Knowledge of the regulatory requirements applicable to an IIROC dealer or Crypto asset Trading Platform (CTP) based on current exemptive relief standards
• Deep understanding of FINTRAC reporting requirements related to STRs and LVCTRs, AML investigation standards and process including those related to blockchain transactions preferably using Chainalysis KYT and Reactor
• Experience with drafting, implementing, monitoring and training on compliance policies and procedures
• The ring of power to make one comply
• People management experience with the ability to oversee and lead a group of compliance professionals

Nice to have:

• Having previously passed the Officers’, Partners’ and Directors’ Exam, the Partners, Directors and Senior Officers Course Exam, or the Compliance Officers Qualifying Exam
• CAMS or CFCS certification
• Certificate in Investment Dealer Compliance (CIDC)
• Knowledge of the basic characteristics or operations of crypto currency trading
• Fluency in both French and English
