About the Company

Crypto is about giving you greater choice, independence, and opportunity. We are here to help you on your journey. We build crypto products that are simple, elegant, and secure. Whether you are an individual or an institution, we help you buy, sell, and store your bitcoin and cryptocurrency.

At Gemini, our mission is to unlock the next era of financial, creative, and personal freedom.

The Department: Finance

The Financial Operations and Accounting Teams at Gemini are thought leaders in the digital asset accounting and reconciliation space. Our mandate is to bridge the traditional world of finance with the innovation of cryptocurrency products, providing our clients with a best-in-class financial institution experience.

The Role: Lead, Indirect Tax

Gemini is looking to hire an Indirect Tax Manager responsible for the indirect tax function within the international organization. This is a new role in the team due to the growth of Gemini’s global footprint and its ever-growing complex indirect tax obligations. The role is to provide specialist indirect tax technical advice to both the finance team and other business partners. You’ll be joining a rapidly growing and high quality, established digital asset exchange that is regulated by the New York State Department of Financial Services and others globally. This appointment will be central to our continued scaling as an organization. This role will report directly to the International Head of Finance and have significant exposure to the Chief Accounting Officer and Head of Tax. The successful candidate will also work on multiple projects in terms of process improvement to ensure that Gemini meets global indirect tax requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide indirect tax technical advice and guidance to the local finance teams and other key stakeholders.
  • Work closely with Gemini external advisors to develop the indirect tax models for our expanding international businesses, to reduce indirect tax inefficiencies. This includes managing indirect tax registrations and implementing the relevant reporting structures as part of new entity launches.
  • Assess the indirect tax treatment of any new products launched and their impact on the overall indirect tax model.
  • Be a key indirect tax point of contact for various business partners and build/maintain relationships with business stakeholders.
  • Work with the local finance teams on process improvement projects and compliance projects to increase the timeliness and accuracy of reporting.
  • Monitor the changing indirect tax landscape in terms of indirect tax requirements and ensure impact to Gemini is assessed and escalated as needed.
  • Identify any refund/cash flow saving opportunities and implement such.
  • Review and approve indirect tax filings and/or reconciliations as necessary.
  • Support with Tax Authority queries and/or audits.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders on projects/queries as they arise.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in tax, accounting, economics, finance or related field.
  • 7+ years’ experience gained in an international indirect tax environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of indirect tax law (VAT, GST etc.) across international regions, in particular EU, UK and Singapore taxes.
  • Big 4 experience preferable.
  • A working understanding of accounting and its implication on Indirect Taxes.
  • Willingness and commitment to learn.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • We highly value experience managing numerous competing deliverables.
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced and changing financial environment with the demonstrated capacity for excellent judgment, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and relationship building abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a global team, navigating time zone differences.

It Pays to Work Here

We take a holistic approach to compensation at Gemini, which includes:

  • Competitive Compensation
  • Long-term incentive in the form of a new hire equity grant
  • Up to 28 paid holidays (in addition to public/bank holidays)
  • Retirement Plan Matching
  • Generous Parental leave
  • Comprehensive health plans
  • Training and professional development

In Ireland, we have a remote work policy. Employees can choose to work from home or from our Dublin office, unless the job requires in-person duties. In London, we have a remote work policy.

At Gemini, we strive to build diverse teams that reflect the people we want to empower through our products, and we are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, or Veteran status. Equal Opportunity is the Law, and Gemini is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. If you have a specific need that requires accommodation, please let a member of the People Team know.
