ConsenSys is the leading Ethereum software company. We enable developers, enterprises, and people worldwide to build next-generation applications, launch modern financial infrastructure, and access the decentralized web. Our product suite, composed of Infura, Quorum, Codefi, MetaMask, and Diligence, serves millions of users, supports billions of blockchain-based queries for our clients, and has handled billions of dollars in digital assets. Ethereum is the largest programmable blockchain in the world, leading in business adoption, developer community, and DeFi activity. On this trusted, open source foundation, we are building the digital economy of tomorrow. To explore our products and solutions, visit http://consensys.net/.

About Truffle

We make open-source tools for building blockchain applications. Our tools let users simulate blockchain virtual machines, debug smart contracts step-by-step, manage suites of automated tests, deploy applications to live networks, interface with smart contracts at a high level of abstraction, and much more. We believe that software development tools should offer sensible defaults and never lose sight of human intent amidst low-level details.

About the Role

Your primary work will be to maintain and improve Ganache, our “Ethereum Simulator”. Ganache is a tool that allows developers to start a local blockchain environment to enable easy, fast, and safe Ethereum development.

Ganache is packaged as a JavaScript library, a command-line application, and a Graphical User Interface. It is downloaded more than 400,000 times every month. You can check out the code here: https://github.com/trufflesuite/ganache-core

You’ll share responsibilities with your team to:

  • Ship regular updates to stay up to date with the changing ecosystem
  • Fix bugs and otherwise improve the end-user experience
  • Implement a plug-in architecture to enable the use of user-maintained custom blockchain simulators
  • Design and implement an interface to allow local modifications to the Ethereum Remote Procedure Call interface as well as the low-level Ethereum Virtual Machine
  • Invent new and novel ways to improve the developer experience across our suite of tools and the rest of the Ethereum ecosystem.
  • Implement CI/CD to fully automate our release process
  • Write and maintain our documentation

About You

You’re comfortable with:

  • Spoken and Written Communication
  • Architecting solutions to open-ended problems
  • Writing software and tests; you probably have 4+ years of professional experience

Skills you’ll learn, or improve upon if you’re already knowledgeable:

  • TypeScript and Node.js
  • Writing high-performance JavaScript
  • Data structures and algorithms (stacks, heaps, queues, tries, graphs, etc)
  • Ethereum Virtual Machine
  • Solidity
  • Truffle
  • Managing and interacting with an Open Source developer community

You’ll have these opportunities:

  • Ship software that reaches 100s of thousands of developers
  • Connect with ConsenSys engineers from MetaMask, Infura, Pegasys, Protocol Labs, etc to coordinate and build software to further foster the Ethereum ecosystem
  • Help build the future of economy by creating the tools used in its development
  • Attend and speak at conferences around the world (DevCon, TruffleCon, more!)
  • Be mentored by some of the best minds in Ethereum and Cryptocurrencies
  • Live anywhere with a quality Internet connection
  • Enjoy unlimited vacation and time off

How do I get a job at DeFi?

Getting a job in the DeFi (decentralized finance) industry can be a competitive process, but there are a few steps you can take to increase your chances of finding a job in this field:

  1. Build up your skills and knowledge: To work in DeFi, you'll likely need to have a strong understanding of blockchain technology, as well as other related technologies such as smart contracts and cryptocurrency. Consider taking online courses or earning a degree in a relevant field to build up your skills and knowledge.
  2. Network with industry professionals: Attend meetups and conferences related to DeFi and make connections with professionals in the industry. Networking can be a valuable way to learn about job openings and get your foot in the door at a DeFi company.
  3. Create a strong online presence: Many DeFi companies will look at your online presence (such as your LinkedIn profile and personal website) when considering you for a job. Make sure to showcase your skills and accomplishments online and keep your profile up to date.
  4. Apply for relevant job openings: Keep an eye out for job openings at DeFi companies and apply for positions that align with your skills and experience. Apply for DeFi Jobs without Experience. Tailor your resume and cover letter to the specific job you're applying for and highlight any relevant experience or skills you have.
  5. Consider internships or volunteer work: DeFi Internships or volunteer work can be a great way to get your foot in the door and gain valuable experience in the DeFi industry. Many companies also offer internships to students, so consider applying for an internship if you're still in school.
  6. Be persistent: keep trying if you don't get a job right away. It can take time to find the right opportunity, but with the right skills and determination, you can land a job in the DeFi industry.
