Company Description

Since we first opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely – and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take a payment and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together. So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, run a busy kitchen, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. And across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow all in one place.

Today, we’re a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex commerce operations, sellers just starting out, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers scale, so do our solutions. We all grow together.

There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a business that is big, meaningful, and lasting. And we are helping sellers around the world do the same.

Job Description

You'll be working on the Afterpay Developer Infrastructure team!

As a Developer Infrastructure engineer, you’ll help our engineering organization scale by seeking to eliminate toil, build automation, and make our customers - other Afterpay engineers - effective. If you value empathy, execution-focus and communication, you will thrive here.

Developer Infrastructure broadly supports containers, orchestration, infrastructure automation, CI/CD, and observability. We implement modern tooling, including Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, Python, Buildkite, and the JVM - including Kotlin and Java.

Technologies You'll Be Exposed To

  • Public cloud platforms (AWS, Heroku, GCP, Azure)
  • Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Gruntworks)
  • Container Orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS Fargate, Docker, CoreOS)
  • Scripting/Infra automation languages (Python, Ruby, Bash, Rust, Go…)
  • Continuous Integration Deployment & Delivery (CI/CD)
  • Observability (M3, Wavefront, Prometheus, SignalFX, SumoLogic, New Relic...)
Qualifications

What you'll bring:
  • 1+ years of professional software engineering experience (self-taught engineers and bootcamp/coding school grads are welcome… no 4-year computer science degree required!)
  • Proficiency in a language we use - Python, Ruby, Go, Java
  • Experience leading a coding project(s) involving other engineers, including work that you may have done during a bootcamp experience or on your own
  • Desire to learn, whether from your peers and mentors, or from independent research
  • Appreciation for details and helping teams collaborate more effectively and efficiently (including your own)
  • Kindness, maturity, and empathy for your customers and colleagues
