About Your Team

The Onboarding, Trust & Safety team are responsible for fraud detection, risk management, authentication strategies, and regulatory compliance services across the entire BlockFi organization. We facilitate the safe onboarding of BlockFi users while designing, implementing, and supporting systems that detect patterns that might indicate fraudulent activity during account creation or the movement of money on or off our platform.

Your Mission

As a Senior Director of Engineering, you will help build and strengthen a world class risk prevention system to combat fraud & cybercrime. In this role, you will be responsible for the velocity of the engineering team, the quality of the engineered product, and meeting the expectations of both internal and external customers. You will hire, scale, and develop a team capable of executing on product strategies and in alignment with a dynamic product roadmap. You will build and foster a culture of engineering excellence and accountability capable of producing best-in-class products with a focus on teamwork, accountability, and quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Form and lead BlockFi’s Onboarding, Trust & Safety organization from the ground up, fostering a data-driven culture and overseeing career development and performance management for a team of engineers.
  • Oversee technical strategy and architecture across our Identity & Authentication, Legal & Compliance, and Risk & Fraud engineering teams
  • Partner with Product leadership to implement continuous improvement, deployment, and testing as part of the product delivery lifecycle
  • Work directly with the broader engineering organization key stakeholders such as legal, compliance, risk, fraud, security, and operations.
  • Deliver sustainable, scalable designs, which includes conceptualizing, designing, deploying, and managing BlockFi’s fraud strategies foundation enabling the strategic use of data
  • Articulate plans and projects to both senior level executives and more junior team members. Represent the team in a variety of scenarios: company meetings, exec meetings, strategic partnerships, and product direction discussions.

Your Expertise

  • 10+ years of experience as a technology leader with a proven track record in building out Risk, Fraud, and Identity platforms within financial services and a good understanding of broader related areas
  • Proven experience forming, growing, and leading a large organization of multiple agile teams to fight fraud and protect clients, the business, and the ecosystem from criminal activity
  • Experience with organizational design and structure for engineering teams with a demonstrable track record of effectively aligning engineering practices with organizational strategy to deliver business results
  • Strong understanding of object oriented programming languages and modern software engineering concepts. Bonus points for functional programming experience.
  • Strong cross-functional leader with ability to drive results with partners across the organization
  • Superb communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with large and diverse group dynamics, and the ability to explain complex fraud issues in simple and clear ways
  • Knowledge of the cryptocurrency ecosystem and underlying technologies, and specific fraud trends in the crypto industry a plus
