About Sentient
Sentient is building an open-source AGI ecosystem where intelligence, data, and compute operate on decentralized infrastructure with transparent incentives. Backed by top-tier investors including Founders Fund, Pantera, and Framework, Sentient’s mission is to create a community-owned, trust-free foundation for the next era of AI. Through the Sentient Foundation, we connect researchers, founders, and institutions across AI and open-source communities — curating global events and partnerships that advance verifiable, collaborative intelligence.
About the Role
We’re seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Events and Community to lead Sentient’s global event initiatives — from large-scale conferences and academic symposiums to executive gatherings and developer summits. You’ll help establish Sentient’s presence as the premier open-source AI ecosystem, designing events that attract global thought leaders, researchers, and innovators. This role requires an exceptional operator — someone who can take an event from 0 to 1, managing every aspect from strategy and branding to production and execution. You should bring creativity, structure, and an existing Rolodex of top speakers and partners from the tech and AI world.
Responsibilities
Own the Open Source AGI Conference: Lead all aspects of planning and execution — including programming, operations, sponsorships, marketing, and logistics.
0-to-1 Execution: Design, structure, and launch new event formats — from ideation through post-event reporting — including venue selection, content programming, sponsorships, and logistics.
Program Curation: Leverage your speaker and partner network to secure high-impact participants — from AI researchers to founders and policymakers.
Operational Excellence: Build scalable processes for event intake, vendor management, production, and budget tracking.
Creative Direction: Collaborate with brand, design, and marketing teams to create experiences that reflect Sentient’s mission of open collaboration and technical excellence.
Partnership Management: Work with universities, institutions, and tech partners to co-host events and thought-leadership initiatives.
Measurement & Insights: Develop metrics for success, collect feedback, and produce post-event summaries with actionable insights for future events.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Align event strategies with Sentient Labs, Foundation, and Ecosystem teams to support broader organizational goals.
Qualifications
6–10 years of experience in tech event management, ideally within AI, research, or innovation-driven environments.
Proven 0-to-1 conference-building experience — capable of creating large-scale events from scratch with minimal guidance.
Strong existing speaker Rolodex across AI, academia, and technology.
Exceptional project management and organizational skills; comfortable managing multiple concurrent events.
Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, vendors, and end-to-end production.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholder groups.
Highly proactive, detail-oriented, and creative, with a strong sense of brand and experience design.
Proficiency with tools such as Notion, Google Workspace, AirTable, and event management platforms (Swoogo, Splash, Cvent).
Willingness to travel globally (up to 25%) for major events and summits.
Nice to Have
Background in AI, deep-tech, or research-driven organizations.
Experience curating speaker lineups for technical or thought-leadership conferences.
Familiarity with sponsorship development, partner engagement, and community-building.
Prior experience managing hybrid or international events.
