Job Description

We run 60+ blockchains here at Figment. Come help us scale to 600+.

We are seeking a versatile DevOps Engineer to help configure, automate, and manage our mixed cloud and physical server infrastructure and networking.

This is a full-time remote position, with team members in North America and Europe.

What’s unique about this role is that we deploy production systems with newer (sometimes alpha quality) blockchain software. Given that the software we deploy is in the crypto/blockchain domain, things like security, server hardening, intrusion detection, and monitoring are highly important.

If you’re like us and enjoy learning how to run new infrastructure software on your local/test environment, and then designing and automating high quality production deployments, this role is could be a great fit for you.

You will report to the Automation Team Lead and work with a group of DevOps engineers focused on automating all things related to running blockchain software. It’s critical that you are comfortable working in an unstructured environment, dealing with uncertainty, minimal direction, and working across a wide range of projects.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Manage and monitor cloud and physical servers across multiple global hosting services and data centers
  • Automation of blockchain software build, install, and management processes
  • Linux server administration, hardening, intrusion detection, and vulnerability scanning
  • Resolution of monitoring alerts and fixing systems in a timely manner
  • Debugging complex distributed blockchains to help run them smoothly

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Linux servers in environments with over 100 servers, preferably in highly available 24/7 environments. Strong knowledge of deployment, configuration, logging, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Linux servers and applications.
  • Experience with common system administration scripting languages such as bash and Python.
  • Direct experience managing over 100 servers with Ansible (or similar tools). Hands-on experience creating roles from scratch with complex logic flows, managing complex inventory and variable structures.
  • Experience automating cloud provisioning processes using Packer and Terraform.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and security best practices.

Nice to have, but not required

  • Ansible role testing with Molecule (or similar tools) and Ansible module development experience
  • Usage and management of Hashicorp Vault
  • Knowledge of, or experience with, Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stake decentralized consensus mechanisms used in blockchains
