The Donjon is the team in charge of the security of all the products built at Ledger. As a Hardware security engineer, your daily job will be to attack Ledger Vault, our solution dedicated to financial institutions, and Ledger Live, our B2C app, in order to maintain and improve our leadership in the industry.

Duration: 6 months
Start date: January/ February 2024

Your mission:

    • Following the current direction in Deep Learning (DL), several works have started to pay attention to the efficiency of DL in breaking cryptographic implementations on embedded devices. The purpose of this internship is to study and investigate different leakage models using DL in case of complex SoCs. 
    • The intern will explore different DL architectures allowing side-channel attacks on real-life targets. At first, the internship will focus on an IoT target and simple cryptographic algorithms. After getting comfortable with acquisitions and DL training, the study will be shifted towards a recent SoC.

Technical skills:

    • Research cutting-edge hardware attacks by using side channel techniques,
    • Perform hardware security reviews of new products launched by Ledger,
    • Interact with product and development teams to help maintaining Ledger’s products top security,
    • Maintain and write new code allowing hardware attacks (side-channel attack library, bench tooling),
    • Present your work in academic and hacking conferences all over the world.

What we're looking for:

    • A bachelor/master degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering
    • Familiarity with deep learning domain
    • Good programming skills in Python and C, and/or Rust  
    • Having knowledge in side-channel, signal processing and statistics
    • A good level in English
